I can't believe I'm leaving you guys...

It's been an insane journey... from Candy to my current M4 vert (unbaptized) to......

My Long Beach blue metallic manual M2! Yes! I'm downgrading luxury for what I deem to be a true M car, sans all the frills. Actually I think it's pretty well equipped, I ordered the executive package and Apple Car play aside from that so I'm really excited about this one. This time I'm going to do XPel on the entire front (unlike Candy who was only half done) and no mods... for now. I'll keep checking up with you guys every so often but you know where to find me!

I have the chance to switch to a LBB M2 right now for a great price but after driving my m3 and M2 back to back, I couldn't quite make the switch. Loved the M2 but I'm afraid I'll miss the power on the M3.

A simple stage 1 Dinan tune fixes that problem quite easily

Im in the same situation as we speak. Got done test driving one yesterday
(Executive Package, M Performance Exhaust) and I must say that I was quite impressed. Especially that exhaust. Even the wife enjoyed the car. However, once I got back into My M3, I felt as if the M2 was missing something. Great car, great experience, but not quite ready yet to pull the trigger. Best of luck OP. Keep us posted.

you'll regret your downgrade sooner or later.. You have almost 80 BHP less, less tech, less luxury, cheap dakota leather which feels like a basketball texture. But do what you enjoy. Good luck man

True M car without a true M engine? 😎

Jk... enjoy. Could be my next, just with the S55 engine.

Personally the off center seating position really bothers me about the M2.
The LCI ones look great and for the price they are worth it but i would not choose it over M3/4.

For only a couple grand on a Dinan stage one tune you're right back up to the power of an M4

Stage 1 tune is 31hp, which would bring you to 396hp. That's not exactly M4 power, even for a base model.

Congrats OP, enjoy in good health!

Having said that, I doubt most people that go from an M3/4 to the M2 are happy with that decision long term. Once the newness wears off I would guess they miss the power and refinement. It's always more difficult to take a step back.

I've also driven them back to back on track and there's no way I would get the M2 over an M4.

But I'm sure on the M2 forum you'll hear the total opposite, hahaha!

Great point! That's the way to post an opinion! To be honest, it has been fun having an M4 i was the first in Austin to own one so I'm ready for a change, and it's nice that I get to keep some cash in my pocket and still own an M car. The track never appealed to me so since I only drive on the street, there's only so much you can do with all that power...

Same could be applied to the M3 and the M2 would need more than Stage 1 to get close. But Dinan is $$$$$. It has more warranty built into the price than anything else. That said, it my sincere request to you to please post your thoughts (honest) on how you like the car after a few months of ownership. Too many people give boast opinions trying to justify their purchase and that doesn't help anyone. I am looking at the M2 as a possible replacement in 2 years and seeing what other M3/4 owners who made the switch think of it. So far I prefer the M3 but who knows.

Will keep a eye out for your honest feedback. Do take a few months of living with it before posting.

Thanks.

I agree wholeheartedly. I had the ability to drive both on a track and while the M2 was fun, new and fresh it left a lot to be desired from a performance standpoint. My primary issue with the M2 is the weight. It appears, in stature, to be smaller than the M3/M4 but not really. The curb weight between the cars is ~125 lbs. The M2 simply isn't the lightweight bruiser we thought it would be.

Not at all, I personally love the size and looks of the M2. That was the car I wanted to buy at first before getting the M4, but then when I did a little bit of research and found out about the Dakota leather being the only option, and since my wife owned a 428i Convertible with that same leather, heck no, it's the worst leather I've seen on any car. Then the tech and options, you have very little bells and whistles. Now I know the M2 is all about driving pleasure and I'm sure it's fun, but when I'm paying north of 60K+ for a car, even though the driving pleasure is the most important, it has to have all the tech and whatnot. This isn't 2005 anymore. Just my 2 cents and as I said told you whatever makes you happy is all that matters, not my personal take on the M2. and I wished you good luck man, where's the tolliness in my post?

Having gone from an M3 to an M2 for a bit, your assessment is right on. I'm back in an M3 again and couldn't be happier. It's quite a downgrade to the M2.

Congratulations and I'll look forward to your honest impressions after you have driven the M2 for a while. I'm actually thinking about the same in a year or so (hopefully the CS/S55 version). Most of this is being driven by my memories of driving the 1M - that was such a fun car - I did not miss the luxury or power when I was driving it...
