Take delivery of the F82 or wait for the G82?

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I currently have a 2016 M4 coupe. Best car I've ever owned. Lease is up in a week and I have a Glacier Silver 2020 M4 with Black/Sakhir Orange interior ordered and on the way. This one is a manual (as it should be driven).

My question is, do I take the 2020 or wait a year for the all-new 2021?

I am open to all of your opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

The 2020 may not seem like a major difference to your 2016. And you may be better off waiting a bit to see how G82 turns out and not buy the first model year.

Maybe lease something different to give it try? C63? Alfa (not sure about lease option). 718 S? That way you can diversify brands and you can always return to BMW.

Just some thoughts.

Good idea.

Also, if you're leasing, depreciation won't be a big deal. Just don't buy the 2020. Keep in mind though a lease transfer might be tougher before the lease is up since the new generation will be out soon.

I personally wouldn't get the same exact car I'm about to turn in. That's the whole point of leasing. To have something new every few years. It won't feel that way going to another F82.

I was in the same boat as you. I am taking delivery of a 2020 M4 sometime soon. It's on the boat now. The G82 won't be out for another year potentially, and then you're probably looking out another year or two for ZCP. I'll drive essentially the same car for 3 more years, then see what's what.

I have and IND SMB 2016, and am getting the same color in and out for the 2020. I love it that much. For me, the whole point of leasing is that the bank takes all the risk, instead of me. Not necessarily to drive something different every three years. I leased three Infiniti G35/37's in a row a while back.

YOLO - so just make a decision and run with it.

Also, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think there's any way the new M4 is out in 2021.

I’d bet that it’s out by late 2021.

Thank you! This is what I've been thinking and wasn't sure I should get another. I appreciate it. It's also a different color and a manual, which kind of makes it a different car to me.

Don't worry - you are indeed wrong.

The G22 will start production in July 2020, and there is no chance the G82 will lag by a year and a half. In fact, with near certainty, it will hit the market in the second quarter of 2021.

As a moderator you clearly know more than me, but second quarter seems optimistic...

Did the second quarter of 2014 seem optimistic for the F82 after the F22 started production in July 2013? Perhaps it was, but that's how it played out.

+1 on something different.
If you are leasing, try Giulia Quad - better looks, better engine, better performance. Terrible depreciation, but not an issue if you are leasing.

I would not swap same-for-same, especially same-for-slower same (DCT for 6sp). But do what makes you happy!

Better looks is up for debate. Saw one at a car meet and I don't like the looks one bit, just my opinion though.

How about all those epic deals on the M4 CS?

Seems like a nice factory package. Swap back the cup 2 tires the car was designed for, and go to town

Get it!!!! Lease this one. Return in 3 years, pick up a new G82 in its second year used or leased in 2022. It's perfect timing in my limited opinion

The G80 M3 Competition will be available at launch just like the M3/X4 M Competition, M8 Competition, and all future M Competition models.

Cool. But there's a likelihood the car will have more something later in the generation which was more or less my point.

What's your educated guess when the G80 will be released?
