Now if BMW brought a F11 M50d over to US this would be a non-issue. But then BMW wouldn't make as much money as selling both a X3 and M3.

Question
With the new M3/ M4 coming soon. Will the E92 M3 with the V8 motor gain or lose value? Reason I am asking is, should I keep my M3 coupe or sell it now? I am interested in the M4, but, the sound of the naturally aspirated engine on my car is hard to match with turbos. I'm torn, any comments?

Thank you
Thank you for your reply. I am sure that I will like the E92 regardless of the new car. I was just wondering if the value will take a hit or if there will be people that want the bigger engine.

The OP's comment was off base for sure (as captured best by the reply in post #3), but it isn't as simple as saying that the existence of the M5/M6 mean that the M3/M4 must be kept at a certain power level. I mean, I agree that this is essentially the case for BMW as things are today, but that is only the result of their chosen marketing strategy and the way in which they've laid out their product lineup. This may very well mean that some competitor of theirs with a different business model has more room to push performance (at least, straight line performance) with their entry in this class of vehicle. |

if you like it keep it. if you know you want to buy an M4 then best to sell yours asap. early spring maybe have a better chance instead of heading into winter but depends. also the m4 is probably going to get a competition package and likely a little power boost 1 year later so the early adopters will then want to unload their early m4's and get the new one. will there be demand for the V8 M3? yes but much less so than the new thing on the block so priced accordingly.

I remember when I could kill the then-current generation 'Vette (C4) and hang with the prior-generation 911 on track in my E36 M3. That's changed now, because everybody's stepped up their performance game. The physics of producing a sedan that will hang with a true sports car have created bigger performance margins over time.
BMW's decision to continue to make practical grocery-getters that are amazingly fun to drive gives them a much broader - and overall a more profitable - market than 'Vette and Porsche. BMW makes cars for the daily-driver, real world, where you actually have to carry stuff and people. And that's why I have an M3 on order right now.
