Oil cooler guard & Line-X

Considering just encapsulating the OEM oil cooler guard with Line-X instead of shelling out $500+ for a stainless steel one...

Thoughts?

It’s like plasti-dipping your wheels.

Yeah, kinda gets the job done. Is it a cheap way of getting it done, sure. Is it for everyone, no.

Do what you want, but I can tell you from experience that the Turner one works. Also, you’re supporting vendors that engineer and manufacture products for our platform.

Dude you cannot compare Line-x to plasti dip lol.

Thats like comparing the Canadian military to the USA military. No offense Canada.

I can't help but feel that line x ing the plastic won't add any protection for a scenario that would take out the cooler. If you hit something that will push it into the cooler it's still going to flex. I have bedliner on parts of my 4x4 and it still dents. Provides scratch protection but that's it.

Theoretically it should work. Take one for the team and let us now how it goes.

Don’t get defensive when you ask such a general question like this especially when it’s debate on cheaping out.

You missed out what I said, it wasn’t comparing the hardiness of plastidip to line-x. It’s based on going the cheaper route of doing things.

You can do it right, or trial/error which could be even more work than you’d expect (which ends up being more expensive when you calculate your time and effort).

Why don’t you just do it and post your results if you’re going to be so close-minded about opinions?

Have you checked other forums of people line-x’ing underbody panels?

My bad, I did misread how you phrased your response. And I haven't looked into other forums about it, but its been on my mind for a while.

Line-X quote was $200-$250 to encapsulate it. With the OEM part going for about $150 brand new, the total comes to $400 ish without tax.

The Turner MS aluminum one is on sale right now for $417.xx...bought the TMS one. I would like to explore line-x with some other undercarriage panels, however...I love the idea of a rigid undercarriage like you see on race cars that have active aero or just flat aluminum undercarriages.

Definitely going to be HEFTY to have someone fabricate something like that. Line-X for this application would be way cheaper. Going to look into it.

Arent there different "gauges" of line-x? They show a video on their site of some dude going HAM on a car door with a shotgun shooting slugs and a decent-sized rifle...maybe they just have a really good advertising department?

And as far as things that take out the oil cooler, mine shit the bed when I literally TAPPED one of those concrete parking blocks that are between parking spaces, going maybe 1-2 MPH. Maybe a freak occurrence who knows.

Small rock on the highway kicked up perfectly and punctured my oil cooler far from home. After i replaced it i shelled out the money on the fall-line steel plate that goes over the factory plastic guard and havent worried about history repeating itself since.

I just got my turner one in the mail.

Fall line one looks dope, but the price is ridiculous for something that you will literally never ever see unless you are under the car. Also, I really don't get why Fall Line has you install it OVER the OEM plastic one...completely defeats the purpose of the part. Idk why they're basically saying ours doesn't give enough protection so you'll need both guards...idk.

I wouldnt say completely defeats the purpose. Its larger and obviously steel so in the cases I’ve seen where people ran over road debris that tore thru the plastic cover, the steel cover could have prevented the whole ordeal. It is kind of silly to keep both tho I agree and was confused myself reading the install directions but just went with it lol. I’m also lowered and in NYC so taking no chances.

Kinda off topic but if u have upgraded oil cooler, you'll need to remove one of the foam rubber things on top of the product so it'll fit perfectly. Otherwise you'll have one hell of a time trying to fit right.
