How to clean betalink off trunk?
I need to remove my carbon fiber trunk spoiler. It was adhered to the trunk with betalink. It seems Like i am going to be able to cut thru it with fishing string. Painfully. but it will happen. Any pointers?
The bigger question is once it is removed how to i get the betalink off the trunk? Has anyone used a solvent or cleaner that works? I know I can sand and paint but that will suck. Anyone have any suggestions please? |

Use one of these, take your time and don't let it get too hot that it burns through your clear coat. Don't use a lot of pressure.

Good luck. Every single time I’ve removed a spoiler with 3m tape it’s left etches in the clear or nicks in the paint. Can’t imagine betalink. Trunk will need to be respected unless it’s a lease

The batalink kit comes with chemical remover ( the chemical remover is really for when your doing the install and you need to clean up any excess adhesive) and a scraper. I have some and i have removed it before. How long has the spoiler been mounted ? The batalink dries out over time and becomes easier to remove.

The eraser wheel isn't going to do anything for Betalink.
You can try to heat it (from what I understand) to make it gooey again, but more than likely you'll need to just pull it off and repaint the trunk in the areas where the betalink ripped off with the paint. I'd suggest you google this and read one of the hundred threads that have already discussed this.

Maybe it was the K1 beta link. Or silicone
I've had k2 beta link and that was like epoxy so I don't feel like you could have rubbed it off with goo gone. Who knows.

I removed and installed a CF spoiler last week.
I tried using dental floss but kept snapping so I used fishing line and that sliced right through it. Hardest part is definitely removing the glue. I tried 3M adhesive remover and Goo Gone and that didn't really help. Found rolling it with my fingers best but boy does that hurt. I left it like that until morning when the sun was beating down. Next morning I tried WD40 and that stuff just melted off. I used a small plastic spatula to scrape it off. The remaining residue was removed with the 3M adhesive and then wiped with rubbing alcohol. |

i removed the betalink on my rear spoiler as well.. i used 3m glue remover and heat gun and ton of elbow grease to a point where i had blisters on my fingers.. end results was just a couple scratches in the clear from trying to use different tools to get it off faster but none worked.. you have to heat up the betalink residue once spoiler is off and peel it little by little.. then dissolve reminder with glue remover. Once i had it fully removed, i brought a detail guy who did a light cut and buffed any scratches in the clear.. then PPF the trunk and 3m tape the new spoiler
I'm contemplating if i should remove my CF splitters as i really want to get a front lip and it wont fit with oem splitters. |
