RE71R to PS4S

Just wanted to give my 2 cents, made the switch from re71r (after 10k miles reaching near end of life) to ps4s, and wow it’s awesome.

437m wheels 265/285, Tuned on bm3 stg1 93, all else stock. 4s hook amazing, slight spin on 1st and none on 2nd! Pulls from 3rd no spin either

Re71 would spin thru 2nd but honestly I don’t think I ever gave them proper warm ups on the street; they’d probably do better once warmed up but who really does that on street —> better track tire I’m sure

Thus to me 4S has better usable grip right away. Loving it.

The ps4s is an amazing performance street tire and it should last twice as many miles as the re71r. Flip side is it’s a pretty terrible track tire — would only use them for a wet track day.

Oh yeah man the Michelin 4s are the best all around tire you can get for these cars hands down! Anyone trying to get anything else or say otherwise is not wanting to pay the Michelin price lol

Lol sorry man. Have you gotten them installed? What’s your experience with the RE been like so far?

The Re71r is a fantastic HDPE and autocross tire. The PS4S not so much. I used my re71r on the street for a bit and when they are warmed up proper they are crazy sticky compared to the PS4s. I got stuck in a big downpour in the re71 and they were really scary. I had to pull off and let the rains pass the hydroplaning was so bad. I have since took them off and only use the PS4s for the street. As much ultimate performance the PS4s gives up on the re71, the PS4s is a way better tire for all around on the street. They get real greasy on the track so I just switch out to the re71 for that.

I've run both and I agree with the above. I'm going to try Yokohama ad08r as a middle ground and see how it goes.

Only impression I have solely compared to MPSS, def stickier than MPSS.
people complain so much about noise, but my car is super loud to begin with, so no noise issue. so far so good, love the square, thick looks of tire. has about 1.5k miles on.

They definitely weren’t too noisy for me either, atleast not more than the original mpss’ before them.

PS4s is a great track tire too if you dont live in super hot climate and not trying to set best possible lap time. They also last stupid long on the track. Once you get crazy good at the track then yeah it may not be a good track tire but for someone who has less than 20 days in the track, i think its a great tire

Both are great tires with similar outright ultimate grip. PS4 more street oriented than RE71R though.

First track day (plenty of experience in the s2000) in the f82 for me on ps4s on a 75F day and they were easily overheating after typical warm up and just one hot lap. I kept tire pressures down to 32psi hot and had even temperature across the tires as well. Traction started falling off very quickly after overheating and of course started picking up other people’s rubber along with displacing rubber on my own tires. I had to end the day early because the tires were too far gone after only 3 sessions.

I don’t think they’re even an okay track tire. I’ve got a set of track wheels and tires coming today. They’re great street tires though and amazing in rain.

Lsee you mention you have plenty of experience in s2000 like you said. For someone with less than 20 days total this tire will work. Even novice can overheat them too, but just dont go all out and try to win HPDE. If you are out there trying to learn the line, dynamics of the car and high performance driving then PS4s will do just fine in my opinion. If you are after setting a lap record then yeah you need something more serious than PS4s
