From a post by moderator mkoesel , March 2016:
"The DCT clutch pack should last the typical first-owner period with the car and beyond. In the past BMW would not even perform service on the DCT transmission, and I am inclined to believe this may remain the case. It is, of course, possible to have a private shop perform work on the transmission, but you'd want to be sure to use a very knowledgeable mechanic with the proper expertise. I suspect there are very few who are qualified, although I know that some forum sponsors do possess the proper skills.

But, again, under normal use, if you have the car for less than, say, 150k+ miles, you probably won't ever have to worry about it."

Most F80 F82 DCT cars have this quirk (clunky gear changes and lag). I find that the issue is more to do with the software than hardware. You can reduce this a lot (if not eliminate it) by getting a GTS or CS flash to your DCT by a coder (it won't affect warranty as it doesn't touch the DME and its OEM software). I had it done to mine and it felt like a completely different car (amazing gear smoothness).

My DCT has mood swings. Sometimes it's smooth and nice and sometimes it's a nasty lil cuss. 2019 car, it either snaps my neck or is mushy. Just randomly happens.

Hi guys

Just did diagnose on my dct after clunking noise on first two gears ( downshift ) And The stop where I did that diagnose said The transmission has a massive play under load And need to be replaced . Its any chance to gts flash could fix that problem ?

Excessive backlash is a mechanical issue, a software change cannot resolve it.

I'm wondering the same. The GTS dct flash on bm3 is inconsistent on my car and not that sharp or quick. I'm thinking of trying it via Thor or another platform if able

1. When starting from cold (overnight or longer, any weather), there's a lag of 1 to 1.5 seconds to get the car moving forward or backward in D or R. If I give it more than a little gas, it lurches. Problem disappears within a mile of driving.

2. When driving in D, transmission sometimes clunks when it shifts down approaching a traffic light.

3. When driving in full automatic mode, I'll occasionally hear engine revving. Cause: transmission has gone into the manual shift mode--display on tach shows the gear I'm in, not "D." This happens randomly but not infrequently. I'm certain I haven't accidentally touched the paddle shifters or the console shift lever.

Advice? Thanks.

My car is a MY2015, but with 33k miles. I too, experienced the exact issues since about 12-15k miles. Tech's and SA never had a solid "fix".. I just installed BM3/ GTS Transmission Tune and fixed this issue perfectly, I just wrote about it :
