Does it sound amazing? No, but it's not bad either now with ZCP. I certainly would not let it stop you from getting the car. It's just not that bad or that important IMO.

F8x Ms don't sound great stock, but I don't think any of the previous M3s sounded good stock either (including the e92). The e46 was rasp city and the e36 was nothing to write home about. Best sounding M car was still my E60 by far.

I guess I'm still in honeymoon phase but I think the F80 sounds really really good. It sounds meaty when on throttle and burbly off the gas without being obnoxious. I try not to be too loud going down my street, and going 25 mph in 3rd gear it has a nice deep sound to it. It's definitely loud enough for me, to not want the MPE, but that's probably the family guy in me talking. I do get the criticisms of the cold start sound though, but it doesn't really last that long. It just fits my observation how picky everyone is on this car. Guess that's the price for being the benchmark.

2017 CP here. I don't solicit bystanders or passengers for their feedback on the sound but I constantly have people telling me that it sounds awesome.
Never had that happen on another car before. : |

I will say that if you've ever heard a Z4M, despite also having the S54 it sounds much better and has almost no rasp. It's clear to me that the F8x was an attempt in some ways to remind people of the E46. Even the colors pay homage to the E46. |

Seen a few e92's sitting in the used corner here in Ct. They can be had easily, if you preferred it...Trade backwards.

I love the shape of this car but sound is one of the main reasons why I didn't end up getting one after selling my e92 m3.
That v8 was just something special when you combine it with a Dinan intake and Meisterschaft gt2 exhaust. |

no one bought either this gen or the last gen because of the sound. if you buy a car because of the exhaust, you'd better be driving at the very least a v-8 NA or better yet, an aston v-12. that lion will roar compared to our little kitty purrs

Someone offered me quite a bit of money for my tanzanite blue with silverstone interior (which looked awesome, BTW), and I didn't hesitate to sell it. Now I'm in a 2013 E93 with an Akra exhaust and tune, and it's a pure symphony, even with a mid-throttle gear change, especially with the top down. I may supercharge it later, but I never want for speed in this E93, it just feels right, and ironically, it feels better and more stable the more I push it....feels different than my lowered-on-KWV3 M4. I prefer the KWV2s on the M3 (more comfortable and more stable). I may go back to an M4, once I find the proper exhaust....or I'll wait for the next generation. I think this E93 is a keeper though, my goodness does it put a smile on my face, even on a short jaunt to get groceries, with the top up. |
