2016 M4 vertible

Hello everyone, this is my very first BMW. Drove Mercedes and Lexus previously.

My M has 16k miles on it and is quite a ride. It obviously is out of warranty. A BMW dealership did the presale inspection on it and said everything was fine, but no idea how thorough that is. Not adverse to putting a warranty on it, but thought I’d ask the primary issues with this model and what to be looking out for with whatever mileage thresholds when those thing happen.

Thanks TT

Congrats! These cars are incredibly reliable in stock form. I think we'll be able to answer this question easier if we know what you plan to do with the car. Can you elaborate?

Well I’m something of a car guy, but this will be my primary in town vehicle. To be honest, I just thought it was the hottest car I’d seen in years.

This will be rode, but not “rode hard”.

Okay got it. Well, some folks say the crankhub is an issue even in stock configurations. But I'd weigh the cost of a crankhub solution with the extended warranty. Crankhub solutions with install range from $2500-4500. How much is the extended warranty?

Well, I havent made any calls, per se. but from what I gather on here about 4-5k, if I read it correctly. At what sort of mileage are we talking about?

Thanks very much. What other larger repairs/fixes are typical with the F82?

Around 50k miles, valve cover gasket leak is pretty common price varies around 1k at a shop I believe. I had an oil filter housing leak and I've heard of oil pan leaks as well. Intercooler leaks aren't uncommon either. Overall, for a $70-90k M car (when new), these are not expensive to keep long term unless you have bad luck

I noticed fuel smell after filling up my car. Start seeing leaks when engine is off. Took it to the dealership, and per my SA the gas tank was cracked.

This is interesting, because I had a F22 before and same thing happened. Both events were covered by warranty.

Congrats on your new ride, I have under 18k miles on my 2018 F83 and the car is rock solid wit proper maintenance. Get the gelee for the rubber striping to retain the moisture in the seals if your parked outside.

I have a new-to-me 2015 F83 as well, and am planning to do the gummi pflege rubber maintenance.

Is there an actual ‘service position’ for the top? Failing that, is there a suggestion for where best to stop the movement to minimize stress on the components?
