Help? Navigation stuck

Hey guys,

I'm hoping some one can give me a clue as to what might be going on. A couple days ago my navigation got stuck on this screen and won't come out of it. Another thing that doesn't work in iDrive is anything that has to do with my iPhone. Everything else in iDrive and other presets work perfectly fine.

Any help?

Have you done any navigation hacks to iDrive that could have caused it?

Assuming normal tricks for reset haven't worked (battery disconnect?), one thing I could think of would be to try to force an idrive software upgrade over usb stick using a download from
https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html

If you already happen to have the latest version, then maybe this won't work. If not, I'm thinking this could force a reset.

No iDrive hacks here. Thanks for the link. I just downloaded it onto a usb drive and I'm gonna give this a try.

So I downloaded the update on the link and put the usb into the car. However, I can't seem to select "Software Update" in iDrive. It is grayed out. Any advice?

Hmm.... did you have the stick inserted prior to powering on the ignition? If done this way, I think the update should start itself with an immediate notification that pops up on the screen after you hit Start. (Though I could be confusing that with the manual map usb update process).

If that doesn't work, then maybe you already have the latest version and therefore can't upgrade.

The only other thing I could think of, other than trip to dealer, would be to see if someone on here has a copy of the previous version .bin file they could send you (sorry, I don't have one)

.... in looking to see whether our cars have a hard reset, I found some things to suggest that perhaps holding the radio on/off (volume) button in for 20-30 sec may accomplish a hard reset. In older models, it also looks like another sequence is holding that button + eject for 30 sec.

Something worth trying if all else fails

I've tried the radio button reset several times but the problem still persists. I'm gonna try the battery disconnect over the weekend and if that doesn't work, I'll schedule an appointment with BMW Service Dept. Thanks you for your suggestions.

What was the final outcome? Did you need a new head unit?

I got this done shortly after my last post. I ended up going to the dealer and they replaced the head unit under waranty. Everything has been working since then.
