Both $2K. Wagner is bigger. Garrett is bar/plate but Wagner is tube/fin (better).

Mishi is $1400 and Mike@xph offers a package with CPs, TMIC and FMIC for $2K.
Why did you mentioned earlier that Wagner doesn't work well with hard track use? Isn't the point of the upgrade to help keep IAT's down on the track?

I said that the factory (OEM) was good for everything but track use. I'll go edit to be more clear. Tx!

Are the Mishimoto top mount and front heat exchanger bar and plate or tube and fin?

Mishi TMIC is bar/plate single pass.

For aftermarket, better to get tube and fin over bar and plate as OEM is tube and fin? Aftermarket Bar and plate would be even more inefficient than OEM tube and fin for track use

I thought Garrett was also really good?

Any aftermarket TMIC beats a leaking OEM unit...unless you have warranty and no tune, then warranty replace with OEM. If they eat a motor it's on their dime.

If you're out of warranty or tuned then you can pick, because it's all on your dime. Considerations are (in my preferred order):
1) fitment under hood without trimming (Wagner needs this only on M2C)
2) fitment of hoses obstructing oil cap removal
3) cooling efficiency of core (race tube/fin single pass preferred, then bar/plate single pass, then tube/fin dual, then bar/plate dual)
4) last is cooler size/capacity, unless you track, then capacity is #1
*) you pick where looks/bling fits in

@E92TiAg335i Garrett seems to be plain cast end tanks (no milling of flanges) and a dual-pass bar/plate. I would only buy Garrett if I wanted the logo to match my turbos...not.

I didn't realize Garrett wasn't a good choice. I truly thought it was at the top of the list.

I'd consider the Wagner, but i don't really want clearance issues with the hood. That is truly what is keeping me from purchasing it.

Ur inbox is full.

Yes, Wagner fit for me no probs at all, and there's an ER J installed right below. I didn't need to tweak anything for fitment, it just worked. If you look in the last pic you'll see where I put the fuzz tape on the hood to protect the hose, and how the hose looks. If I ran the hose bend tighter it wouldn't have touched.

I think from all the reviews and performance data I have seen, Mishimoto seems to be the best bang for buck

I think any ship date claims are super optimistic right now. I ordered the Mishimoto kit with the charge pipes and heat exchanger at the end of November and still don't have them. I also haven't seen them actually in stock anywhere because I would have bought them and cancelled my order.

Yeah— Mishimoto is 100% out of the question due to lead time now... NOT because it's bad. It's the best bang for the buck, but i'm leaning towards Garrett just due to fitment issues.

Dude, TopJimmy has said multiple times - do the purge procedure.
I don't get why you keep rehashing the same issues, yet refusing to follow the guidance from those trying to help.

My OEM TMIC was leaking. The way I knew? Recent UOA showed evidence of coolant trace elements. Around the same time, I tore down the top end to do a plug/coil replacement. While at it, I swapped out the cold side J-pipe and found that the OEM pipe had greenish residue.

At that point, I bit the bullet and went with the full Mishimoto upgrade - TMIC, front heat exchanger, and oil cooler. I've been running them for a month or two now and couldn't be happier.

Bottom line - these are precision-engineered beasts that deserve better than half-assing the diagnosis and treatment efforts. Verify the presence of leak -vs- no leak, and follow the proper coolant purging steps. Otherwise, what's the point in trying to tweak out max performance of a questionably maintained system?

I have done the purge procedure. Took for some drives. It it down on coolant.

"I HAVE A LEAKER."

I was just too busy this weekend with guests in town this weekend and forgot to say that i did the procedure.

In regards to the coolers— mishimoto is my first choice, but is out of stock for the next 2 months minimum.

Wagner— looks amazing, but i've found numerous threads on here (and on the F80 facebook group) stating that you need to cut the hood. I'm not doing that. Nope.

Garrett is the last reasonable choice for me. Not sure why this is not widely used/talked about as they're massive OE suppliers! I've, personally, talked to 3 guys who track their car and LOVE this intercooler.

You did the "in garage" steps TopJimmy described? After my install, I had to go through that procedure a couple times. Only then did I take it out and run the car, stopped after 20-30 minutes and topped off the reserve tank, then drove around a bit more. Since then, no issues with holding the coolant level.

The Mishimoto fit was absolutely perfect. I was super nervous about the fit because of my OEM GTS hood retrofit, so hacking off a few bits wasn't an option to make the TMIC fit. It's tight (I still watch really close when closing the hood, mostly because of my general anxiety about busting the GTS hood!!), but so far no issues found.

That sucks about the Mishi turn-around time. I waited several months for the oil cooler to come in, but the TMIC and front heat exchanger made it within 7-10 days of order. But, I also ordered them around August/September, so guess the stock has been depleted since then.

Good luck with getting it all worked out. I can understand the frustration. Driving around knowing I had even a minor leak was crushing me until the new parts delivered.

Yes, i did. I messaged him via side conversations. Absolutely great guy. Always provides helpful insight.

I don't daily the car, but i enjoy taking it out (almost every other day after work) and am not willing to let it sit for 2 months while Mishimoto gets their intercooler back in stock. I pay too much for the car to just sit and not drive ever.

Will most likely either order Wagner or Garrett tomorrow.
