Here's my current build: PNAIVND0. Ignore the visualizer and its many errors. I've edited this build at least 10 times and called my CA to update three times. I'm leaving it as is now. |

Took a ride in my boss' 992 C4S today - sweet baby jesus it's a fast machine. Warp speed in a straight line, corners like its glued to the road, and claws its way out of the corner like a bat out of hell. Adaptive suspension was extremely impressive on the absolutely dog shite Seattle roads, rolling on 20/21s the car was completely un-phased. Absolutely beautiful bodywork in person as well... truly what I would consider a near perfectly executed continuation and modernization of the beloved 911 heritage. If only this other big german manufacturer took the same notes... sigh.
The ONLY thing that I was unimpressed by though was the sound - it just sounded like a bunch of loud low growl/frequency turbo engine noise which is a bit of a shame. No character really, no flat-6 shriek. I've got to say my EL S55 screams in a much more satisfying way than the 992 did if you can believe that although I'll readily admit that is not a fair comparison as my midpipe "uncorks" the exhaust so to speak... im sure there's a way to uncork that 992 engine as well. Also - Aventurine Green is a really great color in person if you are into more understated greens. I much prefer it to say urban green as it has much more depth of color (between green and grey)

The biggest flaw of Porsche in recent years for most models have been the sound. It's really unimpressive but damn they got everything else nailed!

The other is, think everyone in the car community knows what the GT3 does and how it sounds like. So a lot just expect the any Porsche car with a Flat Six to sound like it to some degree. Which isn't true. The GT3 engine specifically is unique and almost a race engine. Very few engines will have that wail. Even the GT4 (and all the GT4 RS videos...) doesn't sound like that. Most of the Flat Six I have heard recently in Porsche cars are mainly a deep rumble then it sounds pretty good throughout its linear power band. Only the 718 Flat Six engines sound better but it isn't the GT3/RS/GT2 engine wail. It is like all the talk about the Flat Four in the Cayman/Boxster initially. There was a LOT of whining online despite the fact that, for a 4 cylinder the engine sounds great. And contrary to what people tends to say, Porsche had a Flat Four before Subaru did, so it is the other way around actually. (Unless I got my history wrong on this).

TH just released a Mach 1 comparo for you! PS: Just read that you backed out of the deal. Impressive self control, typically, when guys like us start visiting dealerships and kicking tires, we end up with a new car Nonetheless, still a good vid! Last edited by CT_M3; 05-27-2021 at 08:19 AM.. |

I know, I'm usually pretty sympathetic to noise complaints etc. But I hate it when someone moves next to an airport or track in this case and then starts complaining about the noise. No shit its loud, should've researched etc better...........

The thing is, under law, these new residents still have the upper hand. They've already shut down one of our smaller local tracks, Autodrome St-Eustache. As a tidbit, it is on this track that the late Gille Villeneuve got his racing license. Our more famed track, Le Cricuit Mont-Tremblant, home to the Canadian Grand-Prix in the late 60s early 70s is now under threat of closure after many years of battling noise complaints in the courts. Stroll put it up for sale in the spring. He has since taken it off the market, but rumours are strong that it will become a luxury condo/cottage development in the near future

F80(700HP) vs G80
Not a fair comp but you can see how the G80 has much better traction off the line. |
