Crank Seal Guard - Needed ??

Do I need to do a crank seal guard ?? Anyone running them ??

this product is a good idea, but i feel if you properly maintain your vehicle its really unnecessary....

S55 doesn’t really have OFHG or valve cover gasket issues so with proper maintenance and replacement of the drive belt at the correct intervals, this product doesn’t seem necessary. Theoretically the problem it fixes exists, but practically it doesn’t.

Another third-party fix for what's basically a non-problem. If your serpentine belt tensioner wears out and you rev the engine way up the belt can slip off. If the slipped belt goes back behind the crank hub it wraps around the crankshaft and chews up the front main seal of the crankshaft. It's ugly when it happens, but also extremely rare.

Strum the belt with a finger. If your belt goes "pling" like a banjo string it's perfect. If you can push slack then get it looked at.
