You're presupposing that the victim of a crime was drunk simply because he's down on his luck. 38% of homeless are alcoholics. Even if that number were 80%, it gives you no right to judge the victim of this crime.

A lot of people see things like this and don't think that it'll ever happen to them. Or they just don't care. Traction should not be off in the first place especially on a car pushing that much power. That cop is right (lol) riding apps exist and it's so easy and convenient. $20 uber or DUI/reckless driving/vehicular manslaughter. Potentially 2-4 years in jail, countless amount in fines, and who'd hire someone that irresponsible.

Maybe driving records should play into purchasing cars of this magnitude.

The first thing I said to myself when I saw the news story was damn I hope dude is gonna be alright and I hope he still has ppl that love him and will come see him in the hospital. The whole point of my post was to point out that just because someone is homeless doesn't mean they are necessarily "down on there luck".

Changing the focus of the conversation to argue about people using the phrase "down on his luck" when referring to the homeless person in relation to his story in this particular situation is stupid shit.

The term is not used in a condescending nor a derogatory manner. It is used in communicating common compassion and empathy for an individual going through life in a tougher way than the person commenting would want to. Whether the individuals lifestyle is a choice or not, most people would not want to live that way and by default would consider it bad luck, or down on their luck, if they had to.
