Review Of CG Precision VSC-2 Variable Sound Controller (Exhaust Valve Controller)
Since I've been planning on doing an ECU tune I was in the market for a standalone, plug and play valve controller and came across this one made by CG Precision. It's controlled via remote which is also programmable with the HomeLink buttons on the rearview mirror. I chose the option to have the valves open upon start-up since I only want to have the valves closed when I start my car in the morning - yes, that means for a quiet cold start, I have to close the valves before starting the car, but it also means the car defaults to the sound I want the rest of the time without me having to think about it.
Install is an easy DIY and took about 10 minutes; just requires you to plug the unit to both OEM valve motors and bolt the CGP valve control unit on top of one of the motors. If you're curious on install: http://cgprecision.com/cms/images/VSC-2_User_Guide.pdf --> link no longer working, so I snapped a couple pictures (shown below) when installing a 3rd controller on my 3rd F8x. Lol. I've been using this controller on my M4 for about a month with no complaints. It's a high quality unit with OEM connections. You get an integrated solution using the HomeLink buttons without interfering with any other button functions or display settings. The valves open and close instantly on the press of the remote button and I think it's priced right for those of us looking for a simple, very easy way to control the exhaust valves. Here is a link to the product: https://www.cgprecision.com/#!/VSC-2...egory=17975156 These pictures show where to mount the unit. This is the driver's side and the top of the pictures is the front of car. You don't really need to get OCD and drill holes in the plastic to zip tie like I did. Yeah, a $500 spot for a valve controller is a joke.
This looks great. I know where to look if I'm ever in need of something like this.

Nice product... and price.
The only negatives IMO are you can't put the car in OEM auto valve mode and you still need another solution to eliminate active sound. Neither of those items may matter to most buyers.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of an aftermarket valve controller?
oh and active sound delete just unplug the unit in the back. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1082175 |

All I'm suggesting is that there are a couple of features you get in other units but those features come at a cost and that maybe isn't worth it to many.

I ordered mine in "automatic" as default, and "open" as the active setting. Not sure why anybody would want the option of always closed. It looks like there would be far too much back pressure in closed mode if you were driving hard...

Just read this ----- The unit can be ordered with any choice of Open, Closed or Automatic (Factory control) for the default setting or the activated setting. If non-standard operation is desired, please specify default setting and activated setting upon ordering. The VSC-2 will revert to the default setting any time the car is powered off, and can be switched to the activated setting any time the car is powered on.

Haha no the iPE also comes with little remote. I have one in my cup holder and one on my actual key fob. Wish I could just code it into one of the actual buttons though like the homelink.

^ No.
Default setting: What the exhaust will revert to when the controller if off. Activated setting: what the exhaust will do when the controller is turned on by the on button. The perfect configuration IMO is Default: Auto/Factory control, Activated setting: On That means any time you don't press the controller buttons the exhaust will follow the factory open and closing, but if you hit the "ON" button, the system will open the valves. If you hit the "OFF" button, the system will go back to factory control. |
