Test cars, yes, crushed. M Driving School cars, offered for sale by BMW to Dealer-only auctions, then re-sold to the public as a pre-owned car.

If they were just used and crushed, they wouldn't cycle them out at ~6K miles.

I also believe they offer CPO's on the M School cars since they aren't entered into service until they reach the ~1200 mile service interval.

Cheers,

Two good ways to tell if it was performs s center. First the drivers door pocket will be shredded up from the two way radio clipped in there all the time.

Second ask to see the Moroney label. Will say delivered to performance center.

For everyone saying they would buy one of these cars with confidence, a horror story:

I doubt a leasee drives 7k miles of track time on his lease he turns in at 20k after 2-3 years. I'll take my chances NOT buying M School cars, thank you very much.
I drive my car hard on a road course 3-4 hours every weekend, sometimes twice a week, and the rest of the miles are mostly getting there and back. My lease is almost up after 3 years and I'm under 20k. I certainly wouldn't say my car is driven as hard as a M school car but ... I sure as fuck wouldn't want to own it; it's one of many reasons I lease.

Great news is, the only thing I've had to replace is tires a few times, she's a tank!

I'm glad as f that I'm not looking to buy a used M4! I would say that most people don't drive their car on a road course for 3-4 hours every weekend. You wouldn't know for sure though, but probably not likely. This poor guy is getting screwed - http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1409452 I would have probably been unaware just like this guy if I hadn't been reading this forum about people's M School experiences and remembering that the instructors mentioned they sell the cars at dealer auction around the 5K mark. With that info, I was able to put two and two together and confirm my suspicions.

I hope this post helps bring awareness to folks so they can at least negotiate a better deal armed with this information.

Exactly if you have been to the M performance driving school you know. They beat the shit out of these cars daily and encourage you to do it. Would never buy one of these after they have been thrashed out for 6k. Warranty or not these cars are driven way beyond anything ever done on the street. It's fun as hell but you don't take it home. Example: hot lap in the F80 instructor hits 150 down the straight away and then brakes to drift through the turn masterfully at 80. Best ride I have ever been on personally I
Loved every second of it but these cars are driven to the extreme daily

I'm going to go on assumption and say that most of the cars sold on CPO other whatever, aren't these cars. I'm sure they've been driven hard, but nothing like an M track.

It's a used car

If you want a pristine car, then buy new. If you want to save $10K, then buy used with low mileage. But know there are risks.

It's a matter of personal choice. For many people, it's worth the risk to save $10K. For others, they would rather have a brand new car. But you can't have it both ways. At least not buying used off the internet.

Yes Performance School Cars are sold by dealerships

Some dealerships purchase the Performance Center used M cars and market them as leased or loaned to executives. I found that they act like they don't know the specifics to know that information until the deal is done and you see a disclosure. Be careful!
