A8 vs ess etronic

Why is there 3 sensor connections for A8 and an additional 2 for ess? Air flow meter 1 and 2.
Why are they included?

The ess module is just a static boost controller similar to the jb plus which just adds xyz boost over the factory boost.. The extra wire on the active-8 is the Rpm pickup sensor which allows us to make a custom boost map by rpm.
