BMW M4 loud tickling engine sound... is this normal to you?

I own this car since late April and i noticed this loud engine sound ... is this sounds ''normal'' to you or i should be stressed about it

Car pulls strong and runs great ... 40k on the car !!

Thanks!!

Sorry I had to....

I'm all seriousness, it sounds almost like lifter noise if it's coming from the top of the motor.

Is that where it's coming from?

Last oil change done by BMW or independent?

Sounds normal based on what I believe is reasonable/acceptable engine noise, and there are two F80s in my garage: 2017 ZCP (fully modified with 11k miles) and 2018 ZCP (bone stock with 6.9k miles).

The noise is very common on the F8x, and it could vary from belt tensioner, injectors or valve lifters. Some have had actual issues with short valve lifters from the factory (http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1052412) that eventually got repaired under warranty, but it's quite difficult to tell the difference over a video. It's best to take your car to the dealer if you're concerned by the slightest bit, especially considering how you're near the end of warranty coverage.

Edit: As for the tickling sound, it could be due to kinkiness, and since you claim to be French, that may just explain things...

Mine started to make similar sound after rebuilding the engine with forged rods and pistons. It happens at certain rpm and tad a bit louder idle. I'm suspecting from valve lifters or the injectors. Do you have it at certain rpm as well? (Between 1500-2200) Did you find what it's really about?

got 11000+ on my 2018. Makes same noise, but not as loud as yours. Its the lifters most likely. BMW use's 0w30, a very thin oil (in my opinion). A thicker oil is recommended if you don't want the noise.

Possibly Lifters IMO.

Does it get better after a few miles/minutes?

Mine doing the same like on this second video on the up on this page. Dealer said this is just the louder lifters and i dont have nothing to worry about it. But to be honest im worry about it - sometimes the noise sound like mettalic tapping and in my opiinion it is not normal for a car what worth like 70k . When the car is fully warm up the noise goes away.

At around 20k mikes mine started sounding just like that. Car runs strong like always but at idle sounds like a truck.

Mine has a healthy tick as well. Likely the injectors or lifters. No tickling though😉
