Turner Skid Plate Owners - Safe?

Hey guys,

just wanted to check in and see if there were any turner skid plate owners here that are happy with their plates? how did they work out? I am in the process of purchasing one but wanted to hear other accounts of other members how they worked and if they actually prevented any type of oil cooler damage, or worse if it can possibly cause any other type of damage/bending to pierce the oil cooler/damage other components of the car.

oddly, i am no longer seeing their skid plates being sold on the forum, is there any reason for this?

I'm in the market for one as well. The Turner should be available but I feel the individual openings are still too big.

The Fall Line one IND sells is better, imho.

CR Racing just posted a new option in the link below but no further details.

I hit a cattle guard a couple of month ago. My lip turned and shot straight up thru the OEM plastic guard destroying my oil cooler. Living in AZ and being stranded without A/C at 100 plus in the desert for 4h isn't fun and quite dangerous. In any way, besides a new cooler, lip etc. I replaced the plastic cover with the Turner skid plate and haven't looked back. Should have done this month ago. It's insurance that will pay off the moment you run over any debris.

I have the turner one installed and so far so good. Haven't hit anything yet and hope I never do. I got it for the peace of mind. Its WAY more solid and stout compared to the oem plastic cover.

The didn't go for the Fall Line option because there are reports of it actually lower the car's ground clearance which would be bad on an already low car.

how easy is the install for the turner skid plate? Is it a DIY and how long did the install take?

Jack up the car or put the front on ramps then from there takes another 15-20mins tops. All you need to do is remove a bunch of 8mm and two 12 or 13mm bolts, remove old and reinstall new. It bolts right up exactly like the stock piece so it’s totally DIY.

Mine came in handy already today. There was a piece of someone’s shredded tire right smack in the middle of my lane that I couldn’t avoid because there were cars all around me.... had no choice but to run over it and heard it thump around under the car. Sounded worse than I thought it would because i guess the piece was harder than it looked. Hit my lip then the turner tray for sure. Zero damage except for a minor scuff under the lip. i def. felt less worried knowing i had the turner shield installed.

Interested as well. Looking to fortify the oil cooler with winter coming up and all the --visible/hidden--debris that'll be on the roads...

I think if you hit anything solid it's not going to make much of a difference plastic or metal protector.

I hit a huge rock or brick at highway speed and it bent the subframe massively on a e92.

Yes but imagine hitting a small barbed wire lying in the middle of the road and having to replace the whole engine.

Or another member who had his car pulled up on a tow bed and the guy rolled it too far. A small metal piece punctured the oil cooler. Again complete engine replacement.

All these could've been prevented by a strong cooler guard though I highly doubt the Turner one fits the bill.

I'm all for preventing an issue from happening but in this situation your insurance would cover you under comprehensive.

I'm in the process of manufacturing some that take the best of Turners and Fall line and made out of 304SS. They will have a mesh screen to prevent rocks and debris from getting in and be very slim so lowered cars will have no issues.

The issue isn't the cost of the engine being replaced as insurance will cover it.
It's the downtime and more importantly the resale value of the car taking a major hit once it shows up on carfax etc.

If the car is leased this becomes less of a concern, I guess.

About to order the Turner version. Tried to PM you about the upcoming full-coverage option, but your inbox is full.

ETA? Price? Pictures?

Otherwise I'll go with the Turner version and just pay someone to weld some aluminum mesh across the large openings.

Interested. Any pics/links/ETA?

I need to install a skid plate before winter.

I'm in the process as we speak of making some. I'm hoping to have something within the next 30-45 days.

I will only be using 304SS or grade 2 titanium.

I have one installed, easy to do and the fitment looks good.
I did not realize how beat up the stock plastic one was until I removed it.

I'm also interested to see other designs out there. Tempted to go with Turner as it's the "tried and true" one.
