without the grille I would probably see it and think Mazda. I'm actually surprised how sedate/pedestrian it looks in this video. From most angles it's borderline boring and the grille is the only "tell" that it's something special. It's got zero hips that I can see... *yawn* I'm sure the interior is still a hot point but this car isn't the whole package in my eyes.

edit** this isn't the quadrifoglio.. so maybe that's why..? I guess I didn't realize they were making a sedate version and the full-on M3 competitor. I just went to their website and didn't see a Giulia build, just the QF.. which looks 10x better than whatever is in this video. I'm sure everyone following this wonders what rock I've been living under ... sorry!

I like the looks, even of the regular strength version. Maybe that's because there is nothing wrong with Mazda styling these days?

There is just one nagging thought - will they still mount the license plate off to a side on the US spec cars? Is that even legal in the US?

Mounting it across the triangular grille would be a crying shame...

Yes side mounts are legal, as long as its high enough from ground. My evo ix came with stock mounting brackets that mounted on right side of intercooler.

Any heard anything about the pricing? Beyond 70k and competitive with class?

Only thing I have found is the options sheet which there aren't a lot of.

Best exhaust sound clip ive found so far. You can hear the change in tone when the valve flap opens. It sounds fantastic.

I think it sounds noticeably better. Not better enough to buy the car over the M3 over sound alone, but better.

Given all the risk, to me the Giulia QV needs to have great steering, a lot of road feel, be super responsive, and more engaging. I really could care less about it being faster than the M3. Both cars are very fast. After coming from a 997TT, I can tell you that on the street you get to use that marginal increase in power about 0.05% of the time. What you notice almost 100% of the time is the sound, the feel, the responsiveness.

The more the car feels like a Cayman (or heck, a Miata), the more excited I will be. If it fails, and it is just an M3 with an Italian suit (which would be an impressive achievement by Alfa, mind you), then no thanks. I rather have an M3.

So yeah, expectations are high. But honestly, it's the only way Alfa can expect to make inroads. It has to come in as a raw Italian sportscar. It has to be a good attempt at a 4-door Ferrari (at least on the QV). Otherwise why take on the baggage? They say it's crazy fast, very light, with a Ferrari derived engine. Let's see.

Had a chance to see test mule giulia at local alfa dealer today. Got lucky, the car was in for a service while testing.
Things that looked better in person: rear diffuser, wheels and brakes, carbon bucket recaro seats, full carbon hood (inner part was fully exposed dry carbon).
Had the master mech do a little rev out, and let me tell you, in race mode it blew my mind. I personally thought it sounded kinda like masarati qp but better. God it was intoxicating standing behind the thing. If the lease plans come out half decent, im pretty much sold. Been awhile since ive has this type of "luv at first sight"

Will you consider trading your F8X for a Quadrafolio?

It's gonna be tempting...

Nope. I don't like the thought of spending lots of time on getting a car serviced, even if the cost is covered by warranty and (right or wrong) that's what I expect with Alfa, particularly a new model. Nice car to see at the car show but doubtful I'd seriously consider it, even at the end of my lease.

Edit: Also I seem to recall a thread about this somewhere... Maybe the versus section.

It's an Alfa Romeo with a Ferrari designed engine running 35 psi of boost.

It seems like a phenomenal car but I'd be worried of sinking my own money into it, especially as an early adopter.

Pretty much this, I think a load of responses will be along these lines. Alfa's past will still haunt it, there's a long way to go to rebuild faith in reliability.

Sexy looking car though and the specs are very very nice

I was looking forward to this car but with the current ownership of the SQ4, I'm not so sure.

In 3 months with the Maserati, the knob of the pedal controls have fallen off, Chrysler navi system is a hit & miss and now I've been driving around with check engine light since the dealership is a bit of a drive to go in for.

Also I'm hoping standard seats on the Giulia QV won't be borrowed fm the Chrysler like in the Maser as the bucket seats feel like a couch.

But then again the exhaust tone is to die for. Also the Maser dealership experience reminds me of BMW 15 years ago when it wasn't packed and each customer was attended to immediately. The Guilia will be sold by Maserati here so I assume the same service.

Ive seen the seats and interior of qv. Doesnt seem like it shares any w chrysler garbage. All carbon parts including seats, trip, hood looks and feels very high quality, if anything, better than carbon trim in bmw or merc. What im afraid of is the big mechanical failures from drivetrain.

Yeah this isn't the M3 killer-this one is meant to take on the 328i or something

First drive review

Alfa fans have been waiting an awfully long time for a sports saloon with the qualities to reward their good faith. Where it really matters, on handling appeal, the Giulia Cloverleaf has those qualities in abundance. It remains to be seen if they’ll shine as brightly on the road as they do on a millpond-like, sun-drenched Italian circuit, but for now there’s every reason to imagine they will.

More here:

Does not look like it has anything from the Ghibli as far as the interior is concerned. To my ear it sound just like my Ghibli - this is not a bad thing- I'm actually excited to see this car. I'm in the market for another car; currently looking at the ATS-V & M3 and the Alfa fit into that class.
