They are called air deflectors. A lot of these deflectors are installed to create low/negative pressure zones behind the radiator or engine bay. The air flowing underneath will help suck the air flowing above through the radiator and out of the engine bay at a faster rate than by speed pushing air in alone.
They also are supposed to improve gas mileage by diverting the airflow away from the underside of the car, creating less drag. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...41&hg=51&fg=75 https://www.ecstuning.com/ES2767215/

Most people just tear them off anyway. It makes the car look raised though so you might not like the look too much haha. I ripped them off my E92 because they were just getting grazed every time I entered into a steep incline/decline. Haven't hit them at all w/ the F80 since I'm at stock ride height.

hey, as long as we're on the topic, what are THESE black things? They seem to have something to do with the car, but don't work as well in the winter? Fucking BMW!

Help - Part identification
Hello,
I busted the plastic thingy under my bumper on the drivers side, but I can't seem to identify it on the parts fiche. I took a picture of the passenger side, hoping you can help me - I'd like to replace it. 2016 M4 convertible. Thanks in advance! -Eric Last edited by Aneura; 10-16-2016 at 08:52 PM.. Are these easy to replace? Hopefully you don't have to remove the bumper...

I replaced both of mine already. You can do it on the ground and be able to turn the front wheels left or right to get in the wheel well easier depending on which one you're replacing. Or you can put it up on a RaceRamp and do both at the same time, but the screws in the wheel wells will be harder to get to. I used a 1/4" 8mm ratchet on those.
They're a hell of a lot easier and cheaper than on my wife's E92 335is. On that car you have to replace the entire wheel well liner.

Rubber flap under front bumper.
Has anyone ever had this replaced? My car is lowered and I guess I scraped it a few times and the front drivers side one has a tear in it.. It's bugging the hell out of me and I was hoping it is an easy fix?

Seems easy to replace, I took mine out to add the front splitters if i remember correctly...
If you're probably just gonna scrape them again in the near future... is it worth it? |
