DIY for Coolant Expansion Tank?
So the actual replacing of the coolant expansion tank isn’t difficult, it’s just that I’ve never dealt with the coolant before. In the guide below it says to pinch off the lines so that coolant doesn’t link, but it doesnt really show how to do it. I’m afraid if too much coolant spills, I may have air bubbles or something in the system. Thoughts? Has anyone swapped out their expansion tanks?

I havent swapped out my expansion tank but i did drain the driverside radiator. Around 6 quarts came out and the expansion tank was empty. There wasnt much air trapped in the system after refilling. I wouldnt worry about it since those hoses are at the top of the system. Its probably more difficult when you empty the main radiator.
Dont worry about spilling some coolant. Try to get a fluid pump to try and get most of the fluid out of the old tank first. When you are finished swapping the tank, just refill it to the high mark and monitor it after a couple trips to see if you need to top it off again. |
