Agreed - I actually think the smaller grilles make the front end look more aggressive as it allows the fascia lines to be much more impactful and properly do their job in giving a very mean/angry front end look. This is probably the best “grille fix” render I’ve seen as it fits in and matches the OE design language - looks like it could have come from the factory. And I don’t buy the whole “have to be different to evolve” mentality - this render to me looks exceedingly modern while maintaining the obvious BMW DNA

100% Agree.

In other EV news it seems Audi has released a concept for a future A6 E-Tron that will ride on Porsche's new EV platform, and it looks quite good. Cadillac also unveiled their Lyriq EV Crossover which surprisingly retained a lot of the cool lighting elements, details, and designs that I was sure would be concept only.

I did a focus group on the Lyriq this past weekend and if it packs all the tech they showcased it would be a strong Tesla competitor.

This will likely be my last M car. I'll have my commuter and bike paid off by the time the G8X lease is up. That'll free up another $720 a month. Add that to the $1000 car payment and I'll start venturing into used Porsche GT3 car payment territory. I'll be a bit more prepared for the insurance and maintenance aspect as well.
The maintenance cost isn't nearly as bad as I think some people make it out to be.

Is it higher than BMW? Absolutely but you can buy the 3 year free maintenance before signing that would just pretty much solve most of it while saving you some $$.

I haven't gotten to doing it on my GTS yet but my now gone, Macan S, I have some examples.

1st Year was $700 give or take.
2nd Year was $1,1000

Was going to do 3rd year but decided to sell the car for the Macan GTS but the 3rd Year was bigger, closer to about $2,000.

Fun fact. HALF of what you are paying, is actually to the Porsche techs working on your car. Yup. It is even written on your sheet they give you about what they are doing to the car. If you know a shop that is Porsche certified that you trust, you can probably cut down your maintenance cost by a lot by not having to visit a Porsche dealership. For us here in SoCal, that would probably be AutoTalent and SurpremePower.

Don't believe the GT4, GT3, Turbo S etc would be any significantly different price wise but it can change.

Funny watching something like this now since they're all considered obsolete by modern performance standards, but the character of these cars just jumps through the screen... and those NA noises are something else entirely. Man, this was a great era. My only regret is that I was too young and way too broke to get into any of these at the time.
I love a good NA V8, very sad to see them disappearing. Recently had the chance to take a W211 E63 on a trip to PA and thing is a riot, perfect executive cruiser, and the engine is just intoxicating.
Have you driven an E 55K to compare to the 63?

W211 is a timeless piece and the interiors hold up amazingly even in taxis that have been to the moon and back. That's what Benz is all about to me. None of this new purple-underlit, triple-screen, non-hood star stuff.

Stick in a CarPlay head unit, fit an LSD and I'd have myself basically a 2018 car. It's on the bucket list.

Its been years. Last 55 AMG I drove was a G55 in the early 2000's. I would love to drive an E55 to compare the differences, although its hard to beat the sound and feel of the M156 V8.

Love me some AMG....The w204 is one of my all-time favorite motors ...its got plenty of power and great torque this combo make's a very enjoyable and fun street car. Off the shelf they sound perfect to my ears just awesome. 8000+ rpm N/a motors are great but not my jam for the street and ultimately why I sold my e92.

If the 507 c63 had a dct that's what id be driving right now even though they are considered outdated dinosaur's now I could make it work.

People are putting DCTs into S54 and S85 M cars now. There's a company, I think in Poland, that makes standalone TCUs for Getrag DCTs, I know of one S85-swapped E46 that runs this setup. And an M6 that the guys claim has got all OEM ECUs, but I haven't dug into the DCT swap world much yet.

Parts for manual SMG3 swaps are getting scarce so a DCT swap could be the way to go in the future.

I'd like to ask them chaps if they could make it work for M156 AMGs as well. But the MCT is probably much better than the SMG 3.

I know just a few pages ago I said I wouldn't own another e9x but if I could get my hands on a 10-11 E90 Manual in a good color for a good price I would whip my checkbook out faster than Sedan_Clan fell to the G82...

Going to be hard and you might have to pay up.

Few F80s nationwide on CarMax, no E90s

Not really fond of these comparison.

Especially when the cars are at completely different ends of the spectrum.

I love seeing cars get DCT swapped! The BMW/Getrag unit is such a great transmission and is insanely accessible right now, I'd love to see them in more older cars. But first I want to see a 4.4L S65 stroker in an F8X (I know I know... only in my dreams )
