Man Porsche owes BMW and Bimmerpost a sales commission.

Well now that we're taking a headcount I might as well post what replaced my f82 GTS:
Gorgeous! Had you seen the buck teeth before ordering?
Just the pics, but those were enough for me to cross the G8x off any future list. I've seen it in person since then, and it hasn't changed my opinion.

Being fair to BMW though, I was dead set on getting another GT3 so they were never in the running. And the G8x didn't 'drive' me to Porsche, I've long been a fan of both brands and this is my 6th Porsche.

It is fair to say, however, that the G8x, along with all this general atmosphere of bullshit that surrounds BMW the company (and this includes the censorship and banning on this forum whether that's BMW's bidding or not), has turned me off of BMW.

I'll have to read this after work but from the sub-heading "There’s no shortage of performance in BMW’s new M cars. But performance isn’t the only thing that matters." I can already tell that this will be interesting. This is one of the aspects of modern cars I just don't care for at all, I really don't need the ever increasing performance that new cars are pushing due to the horsepower wars and electrification of cars. I find that new cars (not just BMW's) are being sorely effected by it. I mean I was fine with the OG M2's 365HP. 0-60 is becoming a gimmick and an easy marketing point to people with more money than actual interest in cars, case in point Tesla and Elon Musk. I am much more a fan of working for power and being one and engaged with the car rather than being given it, which is why certain types of vehicles like the M5 just don't appeal to me anymore like they use to, and why I didn't find my Taycan Turbo test drive as rewarding as it could have been.

Depends on your whereabouts and your idea type of fun behind the wheel. If it is highway pulls, then you're in the golden era of accessible power (available for just 499/mo at your local dealership!).

In BMW land, OG M2 is right at the top of "okay, this is still fun and manageable on a public road without going to jail after just a second of wide-open throttle." F80 is a bit over the top, but still doable.

You have to be a very good pilot - and a careless one at that - to really extract the fun juice out of the latest sports or supercars. Very likely a race track is needed for that. Traffic is only getting worse, speed limits are going down rather than up, speed cameras and police enforcement in most civilised countries are also becoming ever so present, so what the heck are you supposed to do with your 600-hp M4 weighing almost 4k lbs?

Power is cheap thrills.

The 14 way probably will fit you but the 18 way adjustable may be more difficult as the side boosters are significant.

Yep, its the golden era for those who want power, now the everyday joe can think he's a car enthusiast because he goes 0-60 in under four seconds in his model 3. And then we have the idiots in their ecoboost Mustangs trying to race people at every stop light.

Sadly performance is all that matters to most. Any time theres an article about the RS6/7 or post here on BP, someone calls it slow and I just think, how in the hell could someone find a car that does 3-seconds flat (which is already incredibly fast) slow?

It seems like the roles have reversed at M. Before it was, you wanted muscle and horsepower? You get an AMG or American car. Traction and quick 0-60 sprints? Audi S/RS. Now we have threads like, "people will get over the looks when it hits high 9's" or whatever stupidity that was. The xDrive M3 is only the beginning of the end I fear.

Along these lines, I had a guy driving a 12 ish year old modded SS Trailblazer want to race me in rush hour at 0645 this morning on the freeway.

He obviously doesn't know the Caymans strengths and just saw the Porsche badge. I'm sure in his mind he was going to show some rich ahole that Porsches arent shit etc. He tried three times and on the third time I just waved at him to move on/I wasn't interested. He gives me the finger and tears off. Prime candidate when he can afford one for the G8X.

The worst I've had was a Ecoboost Mustang owner try to race me in the Merc. But it wasn't even my car, but the wife's GLC, which is just a regular 300 trim, no AMG appearance or anything. The stupidity was off the charts. I mean its already embarrassing that he had an Ecoboost with the small wheels and fake badges everywhere but trying to race a damn Mom SUV to feel good about yourself

Yeah I gotta say this forum is a pretty fantastic/awful influence lol. Everyone getting into 911s and here I am looking at swinging a P car and the resulting black hole in my wallet. Y’all got me like:

agree with the above and i've been saying it for a while. quality of performance means more than quantity of performance. I've posted this video a few times across the years but its a good watch for anyone that hasn't seen it. Carlos Lago for those who don't know has worked at motortrend, edmunds, among other companies.

I honestly think I would have left BMW around the 997 if I could've afforded it then. The 991 pushed me over the edge and the lust grew. Then the 992 entered stage left.....lol!

No build code, been looking at used 991.1s and 981 GTS' - I've been pretty certain that's my next car move (though I don't know when). Doesn't help that I also got a ridiculously good offer from Vroom. But alas, I will hold onto the F82 - need to have enough to swing Bay Area down payment and mortgage payments in the next couple years lol
