Torque specs for carbon fiber and aluminum braces?

I've done a lot of searching and seem to find conflicting information on the torque specs for the carbon fiber brace and aluminum cross brace. As an example, the attached screenshots say 35 ft lbs or 56 nm (which is 41 ft lbs). Some of the other numbers vary more. Does anyone have the definitive torque specs for both braces? Thanks!

Someone converted wrong to foot pounds... Your Newton meter values look to be the correct numbers.

Thanks! Do you happen to know the correct torque specs for the carbon fiber brace bolts? I can't find those in nm and don't trust the posted ft lb numbers.

I can't find the proper spec link, but would use the lower value of 28Nm like the similar E-torx bolt.

Got tired of looking these up every time I did some work, so put together the attached photo. Pulled the torque values from newTIS site.

This is awesome, thanks for sharing! I didn't notice the two bolts are torque + angle until I saw your diagram. Do you replace the bolts each time? Bmw recommends it and I hesitate to add the 90 degrees if I'm reusing the bolts.

I don't replace them, but I don't add the extra quarter turn either.

I spec them to one hand turning a wrench, and go. No need in worrying about something like this unless you apply senseless amounts of force when re installing.

I appreciate the picture that you attached, but any chance of getting a larger version for us old M owners? Thanks.

Yes, I replace all of these bolts each time. I try to keep at least 2 full sets on hand and replace them as needed to ensure they aren't reused if I decide to dive into some random weekend project.

Thanks again for sharing! I found the diagrams very useful.

As a quick follow-up, it really confused me why others had posted only 12 foot pounds for the carbon fiber brace bolts versus the 28 newton meters which is 21 foot pounds. For what it's worth, when I took off the carbon fiber brace bolts, which were last worked on by the dealer, I found that it took less than 15 foot pounds of torque to remove. Since I was reusing the bolts rather than replacing as recommended, I decided to tighten mine to 15 ft lbs. I have no data to back this other than an observation of what the dealer tightened them to, which could have been wrong.

Wait you guys are serious about always torquing and/or replacing the cf brace bolts every time?

The amount of times I’ve taken this brace off just to do anything under the hood…

The aluminum cross brace I did torque (but re-used same bolts) however. Rarely ever need to take off the aluminum brace.

I follow what BMW tells me to and never reuse one time use hardware. It's an M and a part of its key feature is chassis reinforcements. Do it right.
