I spoke with my local dealer yesterday and he said BMW will release these parts on the 25th of January and will take 3-4 weeks to get to the USA. I think this has been three plus months some cars have been down and not safe to operate!

Ironically this is the one piece that the engineers at M test centre at Nurburgring in May 2016 told us would not be shelved. Build by order only and a very special piece. "So stay away from curbs". Words from the engineer. I realize no one has claimed impact or such, but the wait is not shocking to me.

Ask to have the warranty of the whole vehicle extended the time the car was out of commission.

Can you see this without lifting the car? For example by turning the wheels all the way and looking in. Any zoomed out picture to see where to look?

I just checked the NHTSA website and there have been no complaints. Here is the link it takes less than five minutes to help the other owners.

So in preparation for my track day on Monday I find out about this?

What are you hearing about warranty. My dealer is saying not covered because I track the car. WTF am I supposed to do with this car if the track voids the warranty. Sorry for the vent but I'm hearing a $5k repair not covered and because I use it (sparingly) for what it was built for. Help.....

I’d definitely call another dealership.

Did you buy your GTS from the dealership that denied you?

Nope, which doesn't help but shouldn't matter, ultimately.

BMW Performance School - Warranty Denied?

You should go back to your dealer and ask if cars sold after use at the BMW Performance School have their warranty cancelled for suspension components.

I am at Thermal today and tomorrow - I'll remember to ask the instructors tomorrow about what happens to the warranty on the M2, M3, M4, M5s that are sold when they finish at the school. I am almost 100% sure that the warranty on suspension components is still valid. Does anyone know for sure? Maybe someone here has picked up an M car that was previously used at the performance school.

If performance center cars still have their warranty for suspension components, they better come up with a better reason for denying coverage.

I would push the dealer to provide an official denial of warranty coverage from BMW NA after raising: (1) information in post below, and (2) the question re cars sold after use at the performance center.

If warranty coverage is denied by BMW NA, we should raise a $h1t storm.

Remind them of this ...

"... suitable for driving at club sport events."
"... ready for driving on the race track …"

also calls out modifications to the suspension

Excellent point and good advice, thank you!
Please share what they say at the performance center and say hi to Adam for me. He'll know who I am.....

If you look at the pictures the separation of the clamp portion is really excessive. Almost as if the Aluminum has been overstretched and yielded at that lower connection. (Just my opinion)
Mine is a mid November build... no cracks in the knuckles...K579063

Anyone else who had cracks occur willing to share their build month?

I don't recall build month but before Nov I'm guessing from yours.

Barry- This is a real bummer!

I have read the Warranty and believe the knuckle defect should be covered. There is no mention in the Warranty of excluding anything because of track use. I have attached the relevant pages of the Warranty as well as the complete Warranty Book for your reference.

Certainly BMW NA could deny your claim, but I would guess this determination was done by the Dealer and not NA.

The Warranty Book also mentions that disputes can be resolved in California through BBB Auto Line. Lord knows how long that will take, but I believe you will have to notify BMW NA first about the dispute.

Keep us informed. It's a concern, because many of us track ours as well.

I do not believe BMW NA would deny based solely on track use.

Thank you both. I do have camber plates installed that does complicate things and I'm not going to play games to take them off and go somewhere else. Unless determined to be a faulty install, which I doubt, torque included, it would be BMW just trying to get out of the repair and using the mod as their basis.....
We all have to take responsibility if we do something that caused the breakage. I will and so should BMW. I am a very good customer of BMW and my servicing dealer has treated me very well historically. I hope and expect this to end similarly and don't want to overreact until it's resolved (or not). However have not received any positive news yet......

Well I think this modification will void your warranty

It certainly could be used as a reason if this was a one off but it isn't and shouldn't be......
