As far as I know it can be coded. The only reason to get EBT is for the 2nd mic in the car. Potentially better for Bluetooth phone calls.

looking for a cable source

Hi, I'm looking to try some coding (especially for the LED headlights) but am not sure where to get the interconnect cable.

Any recommendations?

Also wanted to give a quick shout out for Shawn - he's been excellent with his detailed instructions. Thanks!!

Shawn is great! I just started coding last week. Take your time, watch all the videos and read all the guides.

For the cable I got one off of Amazon. I can confirm this works perfectly with my F80. 20 bucks and free shipping if prime!

Happy Coding!

Probably a dumb question, but how dangerous is it to code without a battery tender connected? Where I live this will be difficult, leaving my only option to probably head to a friends place whenever I wanted to code something.

Keep your car running instead. If the battery drops below the voltage threshold, you'll get an error.

Ok - thanks! As I understand, some bits can't be coded while the engine is running though? Simply stop it briefly then start it afterwards?

Not true. I've coded many cars now, all with engine running.

Thanks for the help

Thanks Dom, I just ordered one of the Amazon cables. $20 is a good deal.

And I must also compliment you on your fine choice of colors and gearbox

I love how the TBM looks like different colors in the sun and shade

If your coding sessions are short in time 10-15mns, you should be fine assuming your battery is in good shape. Another alternative is to connect, read SVT/Coding Data, and do your edits offline, then connect and do the actual coding (Code FDL). I have coded my car dozens of time using either approach with no issues and engine off.
NOTE: DME cannot be coded with engine running! (But you shouldn't be coding that ECU)

Thanks - I'm hoping my battery is in good shape - my car is in the factory as we speak. But I'm also doing a PDC delivery or picking it up in NJ and driving home to Texas, so some coding prior to the trip would be nice - especially the LED headlights. That might have to be done in the parking lot at the hotel.

Likewise if I want to try coding out VMAX that needs to be done before the drive home too - if anyone works out exactly how to do it.

I've also done all my coding with the car running, I've never touched DME for anything though, and have never had an issue.

Well in that case, don't stress it and code with engine on, also in case you are not aware, check the cheat code capability and the specific cheat code that dmnc02 did here http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1180683 for Euro LED. That is a huge time saver for LED owners!

Thanks - definitely looking forward to the cheat codes - will add everything I can through that, then work out the rest at home.

OK .. so, I haven't seen a post with this error message.

I am a first time "coder" .. well, clearly not a coder, but you get my drift.

I am practicing on our new X5 (F15) .. until my F82 gets here.

I have finally been able to connect this morning, now I get this message.

All I want to try out is folding mirrors with key fob.

How do I (if I can) get past this part?

Your connection parameters are wrong. For F15, you must setup as follows:

E-Sys Launcher Car Series = F015
E-Sys Connection Target= F025
