HUD retrofit

Hello all,

I'm embarking on retrofitting a leather dash and HUD. I've done coding in e-sys before to retrofit ICON headlights, etc. but haven't found any other clear notes on the coding required for the HUD retrofit.

Any insight on how to do this? I presume VO code the option in, but which modules need to be coded?

Thanks in advance!

Do I need to retrofit KAFAS in order for the HUD to be functional? I’m planning on retrofiting it down the road when I need a new windshield.

Nope, but you will need to change your rain / light sensor to the version that supports HUD dimming controls.

You also need to replace the windshield to support HUD

Do I need to do any CAFD injection to the HUD? Or is it as simple as VO coding KOMBI and NBT (is it just coding HU_NBT2 or need I code NBT)? In other words, can I use Psdzdata lite or do I need full?

Kubax, I might need your help with remote coding.

So, I wanted to code the HUD prior to reinstalling the dash, because it's secondhand and if it doesn't work, I'd need to pull the dash out again. I connected ONLY the cluster, HUD, lower steering column trim, clock spring switch panel (turn signals and wipers), NBT computer (I have an 18 with ID6), CIC display, and iDrive controller. I did not connect the steering wheel, airbags, A/C controls, or anything else, only those pieces.

Cannot connect E sys OR ISTA, but both identify the car by VIN (E sys gives error G188, ISTA says cannot identify), but I can't even read codes in any module to get to the bottom of this.

I think this may be as simple as a connection issue (I hope, I was really concerned I fried my FEM at first), but I'm at a loss. I've never previously had this issue with ESys or ISTA

It ended up being a connection issue.

On a separate note, until I retrofit the correct rain/solar sensor (I want to do it with the HUD windshield at the same time, which is down the road), is it possible to code the dim thresholds so it's tolerable during the daytime (or code dimming out altogether)?

I basically can't see the HUD at all during the day.
