Be sure to read up on the exhaust cracking issues people have been experiencing with the MPE.

I was about to order an MPE, but am now hesitant.

Don't worry about cracks if you're buying new, you have warranty - mine is fine. More importantly, prices going up in March!

One piece of advice would be keep the stock exhaust so when you come to sell you can refit it and sell your MPE. Makes the 3k more affordable.

I was looking to get a second hand MPE but the cracking issue puts me off, new you have the warranty but 3k is too rich for me.

With the exhaust being Ti there isn't an easy fix either if you're not covered a bit disappointing really.

Looks and sounds wonderful though, perhaps I'm being too cautious.

It's put me off going for one and 2 years isn't long on the warranty side. Of course gesture of goodwill etc you might still get it replaced but to me thats a risk and irrelevant.

I don't want a product that's £3000+ and an unknown to failure in the near future. If suddenly lots do start failing and no major recall is announced then your chance of recovering anything more than £1000 on a 2nd hand market is virtually out the window as well with everyone in the same boat.

I think I need to consider the likes of Akra, Remus, Eisenmann or even the £300 cut open the existing box to remove baffle option.

Hi folks, I am also a bit concerned regarding the issues some people had with the BMW MPE. One other thought is that other than it weighing less than the standard there will be no performance gain. Sure it will sound better.
So this has got me considering, would it not be better fitting a complete exhaust system rather than just CAT back.
I used to have a Milltek exhaust in my Gti. There was a notable performance improvement as soon as it went on. I was amazed the difference. Milltek don’t have figures for their exhaust however state this on their FAQ.
Power Gains
Q. What sort of power gain can I expect to get?
A. Each car has its own characteristics, and the power gain can vary greatly between them. 8-10% is about the most accurate general figure to cover all variations.
I had a resonated (quieter) full Milltek exhaust on my Gti. It sounded better than the original and added performance. So I am now considering one of these.
I would get the “Large Bore Downpipes and Hi-Flow Sports Cats” with a matching CAT back system.
Here is a link to the website
http://www.millteksport.com/exhaust....variantid=1489
Can anybody with more motor engineering knowledge (that’s not difficult) also explain what the Milltek mean when they say fitting the large bore down pipe & hi flow sports cat requires - Requires Lambda Extensions? Is that an extension cable to the Lambda sensor?
As far as I can see BMW and other manufacturers don’t offer full exhaust systems so maybe Milltek is a good alternative?
Thanks for your help

@spidermack I have a full Milltek system on my M4 and it sounds absolutely great.

It's one of the cheapest systems on the market but bang for buck it really is excellent.

The secondary cat bypass really made a difference to the noise.

Just as a side note, if you fit downpipes you'll likely bring up the CEL which will need a remap to give the remove code. I've kept the standard DP's until I'm remapped which will likely be in the next couple of months.

Daz, do you have any vids/photos of your exhaust? I used Miltek on all my vw/seat and they were great.

Thanks for information. I see on Milltek's web page there are two options re the downpipe.
"Large-bore Downpipe & Decat" for Race/Track only
And
"Large Bore Downpipes & HighFlow Sports Cat"-requires Lambda extensions

Have you / are you fitting the first option?

Also
"Just as a side note, if you fit downpipes you'll likely bring up the CEL" what's CEL an error?

Finally any idea what Milltek mean when they write "Lambda extensions"

CEL, is check engine light, or engine management light.

scottc I'm afraid not mate. I keep meaning to do it and we were meant to record some at the last meet but forgot. I'll try and get one shortly.

spidermack I'm going for the catless downpipes which with throw up a Check Engine Light (CEL) unless you get a remap. I think the sports cat may prevent a CEL but i'm not 100% sure. It did on my Focus RS.

I think the DP's may have Lambda sensors attached which need reconnected although I could be talking absolute nonsense!

Not yet mate. Getting it done when the weather improves a bit.

Anyone there who has fitted one? If so I have a few questions.

I have one fitted up currently

I've been looking at the BMW M Performance exhaust system, titanium (£3,000.00) + BMW M Performance tailpipe trim in Titanium (£788.00)

Will the parts above completely replace the factory exhaust system?

It will replace everything from the catalytic converters and back

When driving in comfort mode is it louder, too intrusive in the car?

Confort mode makes it near silent like factory

I would get it fitted by my dealer & guess that as it's not a remap my warranty will still be valid?

Warranty is still valid and has the same warranty the car has.

Are there any deals going about to buy this?

Only deal would be to go used, but then you have no warranty

Is there anything else i should take into consideration?

My intention is to improve the noise when in sport mode + improve the performance by fitting a free flowing exhaust

You will not gain any horsepower but the sound that comes out of the MPE is amazing. Cannot explain it but its loud when you want it and quiet when you don't.

Thanks for help

F82 November 2018 competition...I've been told by my dealer that fitting mpe is not advised? Any one else had this issue?

Not sure it's compatible with the new gpf's probably, but guessing that it would still physically fit.
