Help! House paint sprayed on my car

Hi guys,

A new house is coming up next door and the developers sprayed paint on my F80. I called to file a police report but anything I need to do immediately. It will not wipe off?

How screwed am I? Does my car need a new paint job?

Thanks

before they sprayed was there any sort of noticed handed out or relayed to you from the vendor? they sprayed your car directly or it was off spray from painting the house that was blown on your car?

as far as the paint goes, I had paint on a x5 I was driving for a little while years back, had a good detailer tackle it and they were able to get it off, not sure the technique they used but they had great success with my particular case

Don’t worry. You’ll be able to polish it off with a good product and a machine.
You’ll have to have the car detailed. If you include ceramic coating it could be a $1500 job. Take it to a ceramic coating place and have the contractor pay the bill. You will be happy

My wife over sprayed her black 3 f30 with white spray paint once...I washed it immediately with dish soap (to strip off whatever I could) and took it to the detailer...they clay barred the car 3 times and then polished it; looked better than when we bought it new. A good detailer will get you fixed up. I think it was about $300-400.

I couldn't stop the paint thinner. He was the detailing manager and said the top coat protects the car.

Am I screwed? Do I need to get ceramic now? Pics attached.

It depends on the type of thinner he used. Different type of paint doesn't mix together same as the thinner . However some of thinner/ paint is really strong can damage other paint although they don't mix. Your detailer probably know it before they do the job.

Did a "detailer" seriously use paint thinner as his first attempt to remove paint overspray?

There's gonna be some debate about whether you should NEVER use thinner, or if it's ok in some applications (personally if a detailer says he's going to try thinner I'm finding a new detailer). But the one thing I'm sure about is that you should always try to use the least aggressive method that does the job. Paint thinner is like using a hand grenade to take care of a wasp nest.

Overspray from water-based house paint should almost always be manageable with clay, polish and mechanical buffing

If you're worried about the condition of your paint or clearcoat you could ask him to shoot it with a paint thickness gauge in front of you. Check multiple spots on the car. If they're pretty consistent from panel to panel you're fine.
