M4 vs x4m comp

Hey guys

Met up with one my good friends for a photo shoot and did couple of short pulls(on closed Mexican roads)

2018 m4 6 spd manual
Bms intake
Remus midpipe
Active Autowerke axle back exhaust
Bms stage 1

Snow tires (rear 265's)

Temps: 50 and dry

2020 x4m competition
Wider all season tires setup (front - 265, rear - 295)

1st
4k rpm start 2nd gear - mdm mode all sport plus settings on both cars (35-90mph)

M4 gets an inch jump and then dead even

2nd
3500rpm start - 3rd gear - mdm mode both cars

Dead even until about 120, M4 starts to inch forward

Didn't do any dig runs, too cold for m4 and with LC I'm sure x4M would walk away easily.

We will do this again when weather warms up and my m4 summer tires are on.

Overall, I was super impressed with x4m, sound is so much nicer then s55 engine cars, responsiveness and agility is ridiculously good.

Great job bmw!

Now for few pics

Looks pretty sweet. Performance expected considering the weight difference.

Nice. Too bad the X4M looks like a retarded egg. WTF? If I was going to get a performance SUV I'd get an X3M and actually have room to carry stuff. The X4M does not look sporty in the least so why bother cutting all that cargo capacity? At least the M4 actually looks sportier than an M3.

^ I disagree on the M4 looking sportier than the M3. The F80 has such a wide presence rolling down the street whereas the M4 generally looks like any other 4 series imo.

Car vs. truck comparison - totally different vehicles for different purposes.
I wouldn't confuse one for the other, or cross-shop the two.
Ever.

FWIW, I did test drive X4M earlier this year, back-to-back with an M3. Somehow, X4M's interior ended up feeling more squished and cluttered.
Acceleration was great.
Handling was disappointing, as should be expected from a 4590 lbs hyppo.

With more Americans buying trucks/SUVs than cars, I'm not surprised BMW is building them.
Just not for me.

I think if you took the Honda Civic looking wing off the back of the M4 you would have blown the doors off the X4M

I'd be interested in the results with a lower rpm start to see how bad the S58 lag shows up.

Maybe in the summer we will do more starts.

Auto kick down won't let it start too low, even in manual mode
