Need new windshield and have some questions

I'm getting the windshield replaced due damage. Are there any easy options I might now be able to add like pedestrian warning, lane change or active cruise control? Anything to look out for with the windshield replacement? better windshield glass options, things to do while windshield is out, helpful tips, advice etc? Thanks

I had a rock hit my MY 18 M3 last Sunday and I'm still waiting on Safelite to locate an OEM replacement windshield. I was told they had to order it from the dealership.

This is wrong. It is a completely different wiring harness for this option.

AustinGelbM4, would you be so kind as to post detailed information on your replacement windshield when it arrives? Price, etc? I have an MY18 and experienced some damage while driving on the highway, and also need to replace my windshield. I don't want to go with an aftermarket solution, and will avoid making an insurance claim in order to avoid my carrier insisting on such. Your response would also be helpful to our members here. Thx in advance!

You might want to check with your insurance for windshield repair. Majority of the time it doesn't affect your rates. But that depends on your state and insurer of course.

i'm usually 100% pro OEM but in this example, i wish something better was offered.

I always use Clearplex over my original OEM glass to avoid situations like this. It's saved me a number of times over the years on multiple vehicles.

How does it hold up. I heard it needs to be replaced pretty often.

I haven't changed it on my 200 series Land Cruiser for over 3 years. All good, but YMMV.

If you have hud I think oem is only choice, not sure about non hud version. I had mine replaced by safelite a year ago. I also had to wait for the glass cuz they wont just get it from the nearest dealer, they have their own channnels or use one dealership. The guy did very good job. Its less than an hour job . Cost was nine hundred something paid by insurance.
