F83 extra weight and CCB system
Good Evening everyone, long time lurker here and in process of looking into a 2017 F83 with all options 9k miles, but it has the CCB on it. I was curious if the extra 250kgs in the rear helped with the traction on this car or extra wear on the CCB brakes because of the weight? I know people say the extra weight slows the car down, but is it that much significant difference in acceleration? I'm not planning to track this car, just an occasional driving and trips.
I've heard to replace the CCB is very expensive if you track the car, I don't plan on tracking the car as my wife and I will be driving it less than 5k a year. Can I replace the CCB to steel brakes afterwards? What is the cost to convert to Steel brake system? Anything else to look out for? |

For a street only driver car, the CCB will likely outlive the car itself. So if the cars comes with it, just enjoy them.
Yes, the extra weight can be felt on the convertible on handling and acceleration. The extra weight is not only on the rear axle and no, it does not really help traction, since this weight also needs to be accelerated.

If you're worried about the 'weight penalty' in terms of acceleration/power ratio, a tune will more than take care of that. BM3 is what I'm running on my F83, and it is much quicker than my stock F80.

DesertFox, does your BM3 void the warranty? or something I need to uninstall prior to service? I've heard BMW and Dinan are going back and forth on Warranty issues being voided.

Any tune will void BMW warranty. Even if you remove the tune, BMW will find out it was tuned in the event of an engine failure.
