Hell yeah.

Aftermarket exhaust

off topic but are any of you running midpipes and have the smog testing sites been checking for secondary cats? I have factory cats but midpipes was thinking I might have to swap back

I have to add too, for confirmation to anyone stumbling onto this thread, that using the dealer to 'reflash' your DME updates to the latest version, locking you out of tunes and requiring a bench unlock. People don't really understand the headache that this is until you find yourself stuck in California or NY and have to deal with this. Also, I can imagine this new law being found in the rest of the states soon. I wouldn't get caught up in this problem at the last possible second.
Were you able to add the tune back to your car after the dealer flash or did you need a bench unlock?

Actually need to smog very soon here in SoCal. Currently on BM3 stage 2 and smogged it bone stock a few years ago when I first got the car. Never been to a dealership in my ownership.

Will come back to update what happens once I revert back to stock and smog.

@Phoenix9110
My f80 M3 2015 was on BM3 and I flashed back to stock tune and relock the DME. Tried the drive cycle recommended here for 4 times in a row. (drove 20-30miles for 3min 15sec and then 40-60miles for 15mins) O2 sensor and O2 heater remain incomplete, everything else are complete.

Is there anything I missed on the required drive cycle?

No error code about O2 sensors either.
My ECU address/CAN Id: 7E8. Calibration verification numbers: 01B29B1DB.

Subscribed to this thread as I am in CA… but man I cant tell if maybe now BM3 has sorted the whole flash to stock and +Lock to DME so my fellow CA can enjoy BM3 tunes.

I may just stay stock until I move out of this headache of a state.

Flashing stock and lock means you flash an original bootloader, data area and calibration area.

CVN remains stock as there are no changes to the files.

CVN and CAL-ID only changes when you change the software version e.g. if you have an update done to your car. But it is still the correct one for that particular software version.

"

Looks like our Cali friends are good to PASS with stock and lock

So can I flash stock and lock... go pass smog and then come back and retune? What does "lock" mean

The lock part technically removes the BM3 code from the DME and restores the factory code. If your DME is/was hard locked from the factory (requiring a bench or Femto unlock) then the “and Lock” would re-lock the DME hard lock again (requiring another bench/Femto unlock). If you had a non-hard locked DME (‘18 F80, not newest SW, for example) then BM3 can do the Unlock again after a flash with Stock-and-Lock.

If you were ever selling your BM3 license, PTF requires you to flash Stock-and-Lock before you can transfer.

I’m pretty sure the BM3 app will tell you if you’re DME hard locks and which type (bench or Femto).

Anyone know if flashing the BM3 GTS transmission tune back to stock will pass after reverting it? I reached out to BM3 support and they claim that the transmission tune is not checked during smog.

Do you know if you can pass in Cali with just the flash stock and not lock DME? Yet to try that.... wondering because my x5 I locked and would like to tune as well

Trying to find the thread for this, but can't find anything on my search. I recently changed some settings on my BM3 with the new website and updated my file and I've lost all burbles on my car. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get them back?

When it’s being said that your CID and CVN are a match does that mean they should be outputting the same value? Otherwise after reflashing to stock + lock how do we know what value we should have?

Is there a way to have the GTS steering flashed in MA and pass inspection? I had my F80 GTS flashed and just failed inspection in MA, I had no idea these systems are so insane. I figured if the engine wasn't being tuned I wouldn't have any issues. Really caught off guard and frustrated right now.

Reflashed to stock and locked the ECU through bm3. CID and CVN now match (same value). Did the drive cycle last night although not in its completion. Saying so all monitors are in the ready state now. Skipped the 4 min 20-30 mph drive. Went on the freeway at 58mph for about 10min until everything switched to ready except evap. Got dinner and a few min after starting the car, evap also went ready. Plan to get smogged this week.

You flashed back to stock and re-locked the DME in bootmod3, right? I smogged my car about 2 weeks ago and before I went in I did the same thing - flashed to stock and re-locked the DME in bootmod3.

I'd like to know if you had to get a bench unlock again or if the bootmod3 app/software was able to unlock it. It'd be great if I could avoid paying for a bench unlock again.

If you needed to bench unlock to install the tune, you will need to bench unlock again after “stock and relock”

This was asked earlier but don't think it was answered, is anything done through bimmercode safe for inspections regarding the DME?
