I would cancel the m4 and get the cayman. The cayman is speculated to be limited to 600 cars in the US, which is fewer models than the 1m. The cayman gt4 for the most part is already sold out with deposits. If you can get one, I would. And if the 1m is any indication, you would be able to buy the gt4, drive it for a few years, and sell it at msrp and get an lci m4 later.

So do you usually buy your cars based on how many are produced or do you buy what you want? haha

Also, the reason why you see a lot of 1Ms that are selling for more than MSRP is because the dealers sold them at a 'market adjusted price' of about $20k more in some cases. If the GT4 is, in fact, limited, I would assume Porsche dealerships will be marking the MSRP up a good bit.

I buy cars that I want and I'm not into selling any of them. I buy every car with the mindset I'm going to keep it forever. That being said, if I am debating between two cars and one is a limited run car with the potential for appreciation, it earns a lot of extra points. F8x is a great car, but it is not a limited car and OP would only be able to get one cheaper if he decided he didn't like the cayman gt4 and if he went with the m4 first and later wanted to get a gt4, he likely would be paying markups.

It wasn't just dealers marking 1m's up. A lot of individuals scooped them up and when everything sold out flipped them for $20k over.

I am impressed that the cayman gt4s are taking deposits for msrp.

I'm keeping my F30 328i for DD, and just dropped the hammer on a large deposit for the GT4. It's gonna be a long time before I get it, but the retention value on the GT4 is going to be much better in my opinion due to low production volume and high demand. I unfortunately had to drop a very large deposit to actually secure an allocation.
Cayman GT4 is gonna be a collector one day, if you got an allocation you're a lucky person

I ordered mine today. Blue with black interior and red stitching.

Are you guys who are speccing cars doing sport chrono? I have ZERO interest in it but am concerned about resale being dramatically affected without it.

Sport Chrono is needless fluff on a manual transmission. With PDK it's a different story. I would be using a AiM Solo for data acquisition/analysis.

Congrats, if you can in fact get this car you'll be a very very happy owner, I'd sell my mother to get one(not literally but you get the point ), not only it should be one of the greatest drivers car ever but should also keep it's value like nothing else, I'm jealous!!

Don't do it, the Porschephile's don't look for it. It's called a dash wart by many. If it was a 991 'vert dentist car then sure, but GT cars not needed. The app is terrible. Don't listen to dealers pushing this.

Dealer just put my build into the system. I put a deposit down early last year. This little car is going to be FUN.

Cup car white, or sapphire, black wheels, carbon bucket seats, full leather with red stitching...no PCCBs because it will be tracked. Disgusted we never get the OEM clubsport package. If the comes with factory reinforced mounting points like the ROW I will be very happy.

I am told the reason that we do not get the Clubsport is due to the fact the car would need to crash tested thanks to the roll bar being structural for the chassis.

That makes sense. I was also told we're just too litigious here to give nice things to.

Early 997 RS had the ROW cage base plates welded onto the frame, then stopped.

^^ that will be a spectacular car. And clean with only red and black inside/out. Need a 1299 to go with it!

Interesting as I know another person who is passing on his Z06 order for a GT4.

Interesting as I know another person who is passing on his Z06 order for a GT4.
The day that the GT4 was officially announced is the day that my GM dealer called me to tell me that my Z06 could not be built the way I ordered it due to "Commodity Constraints" which pissed me off big time.As I had given my Porsche dealer a go ahead to get on the list a few months ago it was quite easy to firm it up a 100%.
I do not need a 1299 as I managed to sell my 999s with a fair bit of a loss only a bit ago Next bike will probably be German and something with a more upright riding position.!

I know the feeling. Sounds like a GS or R Nine T.

My 1199 has 300 miles on it, need to stop pretending I can still do literbikes. Might go for a Scrambler to scoot on.

@ OP...and everyone else who has put a deposit on a GT4, you are all very lucky to be able to afford such a insanely desirable and impracticle machine, if I did'nt needed rear seats to cary my son and preferably an AWD car too for winter driving, I'd probably have had a deposit on one too(even if the chance of getting one would be very tin). I would'nt mind daily driving it either since I've always loved cars that had a lot of attitude for my personnal transportation. The 991 GT3 is for me the most desirable car sport car right now, and this GT4 has just become a close second, even if nobody had reviewed it yet, you just know it will be perfect!!
