Anyone else get banned from the G8X section for making fun of its looks?

Slightly off topic here. We had discussed the possibility of BMW tracking tuned ECUs.

For those G8x folks, something from an M5 enthusiast.
“ Side note: My service rep told me immediately to NOT tune this car. Apparently, BMW has a way of seeing that the ECU has been modified and that it is pinged immediately via satellite and immediately flag your car, most likely resulting in a loss of warranty. I guess there are A LOT of unhappy customers who have had this already happen.”

I expected this ever since they added OTA features to the cars.

No fun allowed anymore but I figured they've not cracked the ECUs yet?

This thread continues to deliver! Congrats Sedan_Clan on your Porsche order! A definite improvement over your G82 order! Did you cancel it yet?

It seems the end goal is always a Porsche and I can see the allure. My dad had a 2013 Porsche Carrera 2 with PDK and on the few drives I was able to take it for a spin in anger, the entire experience was memorable, especially the engine! Very jealous of all you guys/gals getting into these cars!

Yeah I canceled it, but he said he's still going to let the build continue since it'll sell.

Actually, that reverse non-sense on Porsche was even on GT cars until the .2 I think. Forgot when Porsche finally reversed that annoyance on GT cars but it was universal for P cars for some very VERY dumb reason.

That is partially the reason why I stopped manual shifting. It was, still is, backwards on the Macan S and it started throwing me off a lot when I went back and forth between my M4 (then), M3 (now) and the Macan S (then), Macan GTS (now).

It is SOO damn annoying, it goes against every feel when it comes to driving. I like to shift with my shifter, not shifter pedals on the steering wheel. It was throwing me off so much when I jumped between the two cars. Constantly catching myself doing the opposite thing for the first few times.

They did finally change this on the GT cars yes but it is still backwards on the Macan(s). Not sure on any other cars yet as I haven't paid attention to the little USB shifter stick I am not a fan of.

The ones I know about, M3, M2, M5, Cayman S and the 992 (on order currently) are the only ones I know about. Think she also used to own 911 (997?).

I wanted a new Cayman S but they’re on hold for who knows how long. Saw this CPO on the lot, just arrived - base + 6MT and we got it for my wife.

We’ll upgrade again in a few years. So now instead of a F80 we have a S211 AMG E63 and a 981 Cayman Base *shrug*

Ohhh ... I bet if you spent 30 minutes in the Munich strategy office you'd probably hear something to effect of "we need to move the M3/4 up into the Porsche space..."

Car people might not see them as competitors, but luxury brand business types sure as fuck do and the challenge to ///M has always been to use the brand as leverage to move up market. The G8x & new design direction is obviously a strategic frankenstein built on a solid foundation of corporate infighting.

VW has the same problem (save Porsche which, due to corp structure, has excluded itself and now, after returning Bentley, is taking Audi with them)

That and Porsche is now competing with BMW "downmarket" to. It's about getting people into the brand/dealership. Oh you didn't know we had nice SUVs to? Take a look at this Macan instead of an X3 etc.
