HRE Classic 300 vs BBS LM-R….

Thoughts and comparisons of the two wheels? Anyone have specs on weights comparing the two?

Was originally thinking of an FI-R but now contemplating a lipped wheel design.

I have both FI-R's & Lm-R's. From a pure aesthetic standpoint the LM-R's look really good if your f8x is more of a street car, while FI-R's give more of a track style IMO. I'd say the fan favorite for most may be the LM-R's as you mentioned with the lip complementing our platforms very well. Personally I'm running the FI-R's with r888r's & this combo looks and feels great but when rolling you can't really tell it's anything different from a stock wheel vs seeing a LM-R rolling you can tell immediately because of the lip. At the end of the day it just comes down to what you want, both are amazing wheels and you'll be satisfied with either choice.

I've had both and the 300s were lighter but by how much I don't know. LM-Rs are cheaper and aren't customizable so it really comes down to how much you want to spend and how much do you really care about weight and customization? Also true mesh vs whatever the LM-Rs are? Can't go wrong with either.

Both look terrible in 19" on these platform (do they even make 19" LM-Rs for F8x?) and anyone who really cares about weight isn't getting 20s to begin with.

If money is not a limiting factor. Classics.

I prefer the LM over the LM-R. But for either LM or LM-R, i would eventually have to convert to 3-piece to really get the fitment and finishes i want. And I got some quotes on that...................and might as well go Classic 300, especially if you can score a used set. If you are buying new, the HRE Classics with FMR are cool. fully forged barrel and face. At a cost.

If (like me) you are set on rocking the BBS Name, then you can't really go wrong with the legendary LM series wheels. I will probably go that route next after my FI-R's but no time soon.

Both wheels can be customized to your taste if you truly desire.

The problem with LMs is less than ideal size and offsets for this platform.

Both great options. have always been a fan of LM's but sizing is limited & several others in my area have them. I went with…

LM-R. My 1-off set arrives Friday (all from factory & no customization).

I have BBS FIR's :
20 x 9.5 ET 22 and 20 x 10.5 ET 35
Paired up with Michelin PS4
265-20-30 and 295-20-30

I also have BBS LM's (These are not the recommended fitment from BBS)
20 x 9 ET 15 and 20 x 10 ET 20
Paired up with Michelin PS4
265-30-20 and 285-30-20

What I can tell you from my experience is that the BBS FIR's are extremely light and something you can feel when driving on the roadways and especially when you swap off the BBS LM's or LMR's. If you're looking for the perfect fitment ("Flush Fitment") its probably one of the downsides. The recommended specs could be disappointing but you can always add a spacer.

The current BBS FIR specs I listed above you can fit a 5mm spacer in the front to complete the look if you're looking for the flush fitment. I had a 3mm spacer in the rear but ended up rubbing on hard dips on the highway and removed them. I've seen setups with a 285-30-20 (slight stretch on the tire) with a 10mm spacer work fine.

The BBS LM Specs I listed above needs no spacers at all. I honestly love the way this looks on the F8x platform. Only downside is that its a bit more time consuming to clean cause of all the spokes.

End of the day it all depends on what look you like more. I agree with some of the posts here and on other threads that say the FIR's are more of a track look and the stepped lips designs are more of a show car look.

I've included a few photos as reference:

Yup. BBS’s step lip has it for the win. HRE 300 are classier though because of the spoke design. You can’t loose either way. BBS LM is the only solution :-)
