Differential Fluid F80 help

Hi all I went to my local BMW parts guy and obtained

P/N 83 22 2 357 992 75w 140 SAE 1L

to change my differential fluid. I also got the two plugs to swap out but I can't seem to find how many liters I actually need. I keep hearing 1L is fine but then I see some that say 1.5L.... I plan to do this today and would like some feedback. Thank you!

Have 2 liters on hand for the odd chance that you pump in 1 liter and do not see any fluid flow out from the fill hole. I did this a few weeks back and from what I recalled, I may have pumped 1.3 liters until it flowed out. Either way, I had opened both bottles.

You put as much in the fill hole until it comes out the fill hole, then you put plug back in. Somewhere between 1 and 2L is my guess.

After the 1200 mile break in and after the 5th oil change. Page 6 of the Service and Warranty booklet.

This. Just buy two and you can always return one if not needed. But always best to have it on hand.

To change oil in differential you need 1 L (better buy 2 of them) of this Oil and 2 Differential Oil Drain / Check Plug. I change oil in diff every 25 000 KM.

My car got the break in change at 1400mi and 2nd change DIY at 15,300mi. I know someone who's diff failed, fortunately under CPO warranty. All my LSD cars typically get a change at no more than 30k. I think 5 oil changes is too long (40-50k). Due to the complexity of this diff I think a little more often is money well spent. I autocross my car so will do the diff about once per year. I DIY and used the correct BMW fluid purchased. It took about 1.6L, do definitely get two bottles.

Curious why both drain and check plugs need to be changed each time when the o-rings could be simply changed?

Because I think it doesn't have an o ring, more like a crash washer. So is saver to just replace it.

Bumping an older thread, is everyone going with OE BMW fluid? FCP Euro has both Motul and Liqui Moly listed as compatible. I have 2 quarts of OEM and 2 plugs in cart ready to go, just asking for a friend

Motul!
Liqui Moly will cut it. But Motul gear stuff is a different world!

Nothing wrong with it. Don't forget, Castrol, Shell, Mobil1 are suppliers to BMW etc. What is in the BMW bottle is probably also in this Castrol bottle.

I decided to go with OE. I don't run it hard enough to justify Motul.

I try to stick to OEM when possible.

I did the OE as well. Ended up cracking the second bottle open, only to need a few pumps of fluid.
