That's a similar problem I'm facing. I want to run performance summer tires, not r-compounds. I know they're slower on track but I just do track days for fun, I'm not looking to shave that last second off my lap time. There doesn't seem to be any much in the way of performance street tires in 295 - 305 widths with a decent sidewall. The NT05 seems to be about it.

I loved the RA-1, I used to run them on my time attack MkII GTi. The first half of the tread was great in the rain. It became a slick after the first half wore down. I used to carry 2 sets, one new for the wet and one worn for the dry.

However, the RA-1 are less well suited for heavy cars such as ours. That is where the NT01 comes in. Apparently, it uses the same tread compound than the RA-1 but uses the a stiffer carcass and bigger tread blocks to deal with the extra loads. The NT01 also have the same 2 tread pattern concept as the RA-1.

Related question: what's folks recommendations for getting TPMS for your track wheels? Worth it, or better to measure tire temp and pressure as soon as you hit the pits?

Because the temperature causes huge inflation fluctuation in my track tires, I opted to not install them in the past few sets of track wheels. I used to get pressure warnings in the car as it heats and cools, and I don;t see the need to for them for track events. To me, it only causes more balancing weights to be be needed.

There is also the option of R888 in 305/35R18.

The NT01 and R888 can also be had in 315/30R18 that also fit with the 18x10ET44 EC-7.
Can the 18x10ET44 be run front and rear?

Typo on my part, I meant to write 18x11ET44 (the topic of this thread).

I doubt the 18x11ET44 would fit in the front.

Man, those sure are beefy . Can't wait to try these steam rollers on track .

Nice! This will be my rear tire setup when my M3 arrives.

Time to show those GT350R's and Camaro Z28's who's boss.
When's the first track day?

Don't ask

I got the tires from a local tire shop just beside work, which is not my usual shop. They actually got me the best price around. I forgot to ask them not to balance. Further, they mounted the tire without considering the yellow dots, which they mounted totally upside down and hence the high quantity of weights. My usual shop know me well enough, they install the tire right and don't bother balancing. When I realized it, it was too late, so it cost me $30 per wheel instead of my usual $12 for install. I'll make sure I specify what I want next time I go to this shop.

Nice!! I'm jealous!! That rear wheel and tire combo should allow you to open the throttle sooner!

sure makes the MPSS look so pedestrian next to that massive nt01. I can't believe the 305 wide Contis for the stock wheels but I've been liking them for the street. if I keep this car I think I'll get a set of 18x11s with 305s. definitely it let he way to go.

I tried out the 18x11 et44 with 305/35 R888 this past Sunday. Very stable and good grip. Very slight rub on passenger fender liner, drivers side no rubbing. My car isn't lowered and has factory EDC, non comp package - I ran with sport plus for suspension setting.

Can you please post you alignment specs? I understand from the Apex thread the clearance is quite close, but they did not have rub on their test car, and I have added more rear toe in and wonder if I should plan for a different alignment as well?

I have the Dinan rear toe links. I will check to see where it was after they installed the links. Like I said, it was very minimal and not a real concern.

I managed to get the 305 NT01 rears when discount tire had the eBay sale, $512 shipped. But the fronts were out of stock.

Now I need to buy fronts, and hit the track. Will be my first time on R comps, had Hankook RS3 before.
