OEM GT4 Wing
For those curious on how to install a GT4 wing. I chose the gt4 wing over the bimmerworld swan neck, mainly due to this being my daily so I needed something to fit within the perimeter of the car. I sourced this wing from bimmerworld, and they were awesome to work with! The wing pretty much installs just like the bimmerworld swan neck wing. There are a few good bimmerworld swan neck reference videos on youtube.
Some CAD (cardboard assisted design). Cardboard to line up the holes to drill triangle bracket to the trunk mounts Easiest to drill the triangle mounts with the trunk off the car. I copied the bimmerworld mounting idea and increased the length of the mounting bolts. This allows the bolt to be secured with both sides of the channel mount. 2x M8-1.25x45mm 2x M8-1.25x50mm Cutting the trunk is probably one of the hardest parts of this install. The trunk has a bunch of grooves making it hard to cut with the cutting wheel. In order to cut the oval needed for the mount I decided to drill two holes at the ends of the triangle mount, then use the dremel to link the holes. Used a little paint to mark holes for drilling into the top layer. The scariest part of no return!! Also stole another bimmerworld idea and used pipes to reinforce the mounting channel. A little silicone to seal the trim to the trunk. The final product |

Looks fire! How’s the drive improved? Is this for track?

that's pretty awesome! And you can always swap to the GTMore/swan neck wing later on!

Looks awesome! I would like to add some more aero by next year, won’t be much track time this year for me.
I heard it’s a important to add aero in the front for the wing to be useful, not sure if I want a giant low front lip. Good luck with the season, I bet this car rips with better corner grip. |

Also, I remember a thread where the rear GTS wing added 4x more downforce than the GTS front lip anyways. Wonder if front downforce is that crucial on a car with a frontward weight bias |

Lowering springs and dampers will definitely help performance but not always suitable for speed bumps on daily commutes. It is a great combination with aerodynamics. Front aero is important for keeping grip on the front wheels, it enhances front downforce and helps manage airflow around the car. Rear aero is good for downforce at the rear of the car and helps manage traction at the rear esp. during acceleration/braking. If you ignore either front or rear aerodynamics performance is compromised. |

That’s a neat idea, but if you can make an extension from scratch, why not just make an entire new taller bracket that replaced the oem bracket all together. Would probably look/function better. Just asking out of ignorance, I have no experience with the oem gts spoiler/ bracket.

And to the OP, that wing looks amazing. The diy is great, the pictures make this seem like something I could actually handle on my own. If someday a used one comes up I’m pulling the trigger. I’m just too cheap to cough up 5k for a new one.

Ended up running a 1:26.8, which is faster than my previous PB of ~1:29. I also ended up installing a Sparco QRT Performance before my track day. So not sure if it was the seat or the wing that gave me extra time. I should have bought the seat a longggg time ago, but I was too afraid of leaving comfort behind.
I did feel that the car did not step out as much as it used to through the corners. I probably need a faster track to truly test the wing, since Thunderhill West is relatively slow. Is this wing worth all the money? Probably not , but boy is it pretty |
