Are their any more vids of the secondary cats replaced with Magnaflows and the resonator replaced as well? The one vid in first post sounds decent, but would love to hear more vids in different situations. I searched Youtube and come up short. To anybody that has done this configuration with a stock exhaust, please chime in on your opinion of this set up please. Thanks!

I’m really interested in doing this but my car is leased. You think it would cause any trouble to just remove it and re weld stock parts at lease turn in? Thanks! |

Wow nice work thanks for sharing. Imo I like the last clip of the resonator relived and the magnaflow x pipe installed. It gave the exhaust noise some much needed character.
Are you also running catless down pipes? Sorry if I missed it.

H-pipes allow a cross-flow to occur between the sides. The passage of this cross-flow is restrictive because it is at a 90 degree angle to the main straight flow. The advantage to an h-pipe is that it does not add resistance to the main flow paths. Straight pipes have lower flow losses then curved pipes. X-pipe as pictures is a curved pipe that placed flow directly into a area with the second pipe's flow. "The S55 engine has a different exhaust system structure than in the N55 engine. It uses two mono scroll turbochargers instead of the single twin-scroll turbocharger of the N55.The exhaust system is a twin-pipe system in relation to the cylinderbanks 1and2. The exhaust system was designed for minimum exhaust backpressure. The gas exchange efficiency was further optimized by sport tuning and intelligent light weight construction." In short I would trust the factory tested and designed H-pipe resonator for the most power over a generic X-pipe that appears to be more restrictive in the center of the x.. Had the Magnaflow 14156 installed. 95$ for the install and 90$ per resonator from amazon So 300$ for the project. Other than BM3 tuning; I can't think of a better bang for the buck upgrade.

Wow I think you've done a fantastic job there, it sounds so much cleaner than stock. I've been looking at incorporating some aero exhaust resonators on mine, there very well built and compact fitment.im curious how it will sound.

Thanks, not quite done. Im trying to get a shop to fabricate an x-pipe where my custom h-pipe is currently (behind rear diff).
The tone and snarly sound is due to equal-length pipes for both sides and the crossing over at the h-pipe. The stock downpipes have a difference of over 15" between front and rear banks so it causes that typical S55 truck-ish down low and buzzy up top sound. |

Do you find the h or x pipe to work better at the rear end? Reason I ask is that when researching x pipe location the majority say to mount them around the transmission area.
Apparently some would put a thick crayon line on the front sections then drive for 20 mins and where the crayon stopped melting that was the desired place for the x pipe. |

no, my reasoning was more for packaging as I needed to create the equal-length piping by adding extra pipes for the rear-bank pipes (US passenger side, UK drivers side) before they merged at the crossover.
Speaking of crossovers, the scavenging benefits of them aren't as apparent on turbo'ed cars, the turbos create their own exhaust velocity and pipe diameter is a more important factor to get exhaust gases out. Although it does have some scavenging benefits, its not as great as on a naturally aspirated car, so the location isn't as important for us.
