Amazing job and post! Best exhaust note to date to come out of this car. Even more amazing is how much cheaper this mod is than the current aftermarket exhaust options.

Either way, thanks for trying out all these different setups and posting video!
LMFAO, what is that.....a Buick or something!

There was no stock car during the time I was there.
But my guess is that you will gain about 3-5hp with secondary cat delete.

Is part #14156 the proper pipe diameter by default, or does one need to specify? And, if so, what is that diameter?

'Cause I'm gonna do it.

This is very cool..thx for doing this. In your opinion, if you did the resonators but not the golf tee mod, would there be much difference one way or another? I apologize if I missed this somewhere in the thread.

I didn't try that because I think that would make cold start sound bad.
Also, would make partial throttle sound muted which is exactly what I wanted to get rid of.

For MPE, I would go with secondary cat delete mod instead. DTM M4 had this mod on their car.
Since MPE has good muffler on it, I think it will be ok to let the car control valve flap automatically and have gas flow to muffler part when needed. Doing secondary cat delete would just make MPE's beautiful sound more audible.

Are we calling MagnaFlow "quality aftermarket parts" in this thread now? Is this where we have come on this forum? I know everyone is looking for shortcuts and quite a few cheapskates on all BMW forums, but we have to draw the line somewhere. I'm glad so many guys are happy to go this route but it's obviously not for me.

I know this is 3 pages of the same people licking their lips and about 200 people on the sidelines scratching their heads thinking WTF! I wonder what the correlation is between the Magnaflow "mod" and the Chinese knockoff parts purchase frequency?

Can't type anymore.......

Sorry to revive an ancient thread, but after months of research on aftermarket exhaust systems, I have settled on Parky's clever-assed mod, in combination with THIS!!!:

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1080549

Here's why:

Less than $1k gets you everything you should want. The more guttural, less raspy result of Parky's mod, along with total, instant control over the flaps. (Maybe another $200 to powdercoat the damper and tips...)

Honestly, unless you feel the need to eliminate all cats (not a very appealing option to me, unless adding 150 hp is the goal, which, while I get that for many, is not my goal) what do the $3k - $7k exhaust systems do for you that this mod doesn't? Besides adding eye-wateringly expensive tips, not a hell of a lot.

Flaps open with this mod = just about the same thing as any aftermarket unit that includes a mid-pipe. Sure, there may be some very subtle differences in timbre, tone, etc, HOWEVER, there is definitely not $3k-$7k worth of difference.

It's a far-flung solution, so much so that I feel the need to post evidence once I'm done. Be patient, please. Gonna take a while. It'll be worth the wait.

Good luck! I don't know how my exhaust would sound with valve closed (gas exit going to main muffler). Maybe one day, I will just reconnect valve controller back and hear how it sounds.
