Selling a modified car
Gents,
Any thoughts on the marketability of a modified car vs a stock car? Tasteful visual mods not a concern, I mean mechanical mods and more specifically, a car with Pure Turbos installed and pinned crank hub installed? F80 M3 is the car I am referring to. More desirable? Less? |

Also performance parts are going to make the buyer think that the car was driven harder than a stock car and therefore less reliable long term. Better off returning the car to stock and selling the parts, then sell a completely returned to stock car. |

There is always someone out there that will take a risk and buy a modified car. You just have to find the right person. Personally, I am not that person. As you stated little cosmetic mods are fine, but dealing with upgraded turbos and heavy engine mods are not appealing to me. Absolutely less desirable to me but not to someone who will take the risk with a car susceptible to problems. I also refuse to buy a car that was heavily modified in terms of motor work and was put back to stock. THey are usually never put back to stock correctly and problems are imminent. |

Are you asking what is easier to sell?
Short answer is always going to be stock. People will "think" it's less beaten on, looks like it came from a dealership and is essentially a blank slate that one can then do their desired mods. If the car you're selling has the crank hub issue addressed, to me that's a benefit to the selling details. The turbos can be pro or a con depending on person. Some people think car is plenty good from the jump while others don't.. All this is my opinion though and i'm sure you will get varying answers. |

I would say leave the pinned crank hub as that is a selling point for those paranoid about the SCH.
It's like anyone buying an e92 will always ask when the bearings were done. |

Put back to stock as much as you can, you won't get top dollar for modified car.

I would definitely recommend putting back to stock as much as possible. Most of us here are car enthusiasts and Im sure most of us immediately turn away when we see mods...because we all know the hacks out there that exist (not implying you are).

If you find a fellow enthusiast who understands the value of the car as it sits, vs the stock value, you're golden. That's what I've done with a few cars which were 'tastefully modified'. The right buyer comes along, it may just take some time.

Been there done that. My e92 was fully built (everything except a built motor) and I was having a hard time finding a serious buyer, who wasn't kicking tires. I decided to go back to stock and sell my parts. Easily the best decision I made.
Like it was said before, keep the crank hub solution in there as a selling point, but everything should come out and be sold. I know it's a PITA, but you'll be able to recover more money that way. Hope this helps. |

Expect to lose money on the missed car as you will not recoup the money you've put into the car. Better to just sell the part and sell the car separately.
