BMC Filters Loss On Low End

OP could be experiencing lag as the car adapts.

If I recall CigarPundit we did 2 or 3 passes after the filters? Usually cars cycle through and adapt quickly after the first or second pass on the dyno.

Yep, my car. I don't remember the idling thing, but I was probably too busy laughing about the fact that we were doing dyno runs for the filters. If you have the dyno charts saved, feel free to post!

Only one way to really find out whats going on. Are you tuned? Can you datalog? I wonder if its getting maf interference via turbulent air flow and pulling timing or something?

Was there a major weather change (like going from 80 to 100* ambient) or similar weather?

No tune here. Stock map on 2000+ miles at a time on DCI's and BMC filters on 2 different vehicles.

I've brought the topic up with a couple F8X users and seem to get the same answer. "Feels slower, but it sounds pretty sweet"

The saying "The ECU has to learn the new set up" does not apply to neither my ZCP F82 Pre LCI(6SP) or ZCP F80 LCI(DCT). I have had both vehicles with BMC filters and aftermarket dual cone intakes. Both set ups yield a decrease on available power at low RPMs.


The reason I ditched DCI's was due to the loss on low end, heat soak was my first guess; however, after switching around with BMC and fully stock I have found that there is nothing better for stock map performance than the OEM filters.

No tune here. Stock with BMCs and I didn't feel a loss in power. I didn't feel a gain either, but the car still pulls as strong as it did before the filter swap.

Have you tried installing some fresh OEM filters after the BMC swap? if not it's difficult to notice just from butt dyno

My car only had 900 miles before I did the swap. I drove it home from PCD and had the BMCs waiting for install when I returned. My car has 1,300 miles now. I could throw the stock filters back in but like I said I haven't noticed a difference (butt dyno).

I swapped my stock filters out for a set of K&N. No noticeable loss in power as described here.

I doubt a momentary 1-5 torque loss like that would be detectable on a butt dyno. Nor can I report feeling the 10 hp gain at the upper end. I think the bottom line is that a carbon delete + BMC is a perfectly good OEM alternative if you are stock, and the slightly better flow is helpful when you are tuned. But either way, it doesn’t make much difference.

The loss on low end is not as pronounced on DCT; however, on a 6-speed is much worse to the point you would think there's a bit of turbo lag.

So you guy think that less restriction on the intake would cause turbo lag?
