Are you happy with your M3/M4 after the better part of a year?

Hey people,

I've been surprised at how many relatively new (but used) M's I've seen for sale. Maybe this is perfectly normal and the ratios are actually low, but it made me question my need for another M.

So are you happy with your M, or are there common problems or concerns that I should consider? Does that flat torque curve equate to less thrill and fun after a little while?

I'm coming from an E39 M5, preceded by an E36 M3, currently dealing with an xDrive 335 and hating the loss of RWD. My use of my M would be as a daily diver. I'm a torque and acceleration junky. And yes, I've test driven a few current M's, but not able to kick the rear out or really let loose.

I'd appreciate some seasoned opinions and perspectives! thanks,
RR

I love the M however I think when my M4 lease is up I will get an M3. I originally wanted the M4 when the 4 series came out because I had a sedan for so long. Then I went to order an M3 and production delays held it up so I went over to an M4. Now every time I see an M3 with that big fat wide ass I want it. It's really just about that for me. The rest of the car is all the same for the most part.

What I do notice is that the HK system sounds better in a sedan than the coupe. My F30 hit harder than that in my M4. Something with acoustics I'm sure. I really don't dislike much except for the lack of storage but that isn't going to change so I've given up.

As for the flat torque curve I'm ok with it...I like that it pulls all the way thru rather than getting a large surge in lower half way up the power band.

I love my m3, she's treated me well with no hiccups or issues. Together we've killed ransoms on highway pulls and beaten drag cars at the strip. M cars feel like precision guidance weapons doing exactly what they're told but with a bang. I would never trade mine.

I have though noticed some competitors that have done a great job with their respectful models, mainly the ats-v. The z06 c7 also impressed me and both can be had for around/a little above what I paid for my f80. I will definitely be checking out these when it's time for me to release the M, but until that time (which is very far away) I will be enjoying my project

It's been just over a year since I picked up my M3 through the PCD. I enjoy driving it every time, and still look back at least twice after parking! Done several long trips and lots of daily commuting. It never gets old!

Official ///M quote of the week. Put that on a T-shirt.

Edit: I've had mine only a month so I wasn't gonna chime in but what the heck...
I came directly from the E90 V8 and I have zero-point-zero regrets. I love everything about the new car, including *gasp* the noise. I kept asking myself... Why does the internet want me to hate the sound? I like it. Am I wrong? The steering too. Excellent. The motor? Natch. And all the new gadgets, and the leather, and the stitching... And Sakhir Orange paint... OH EFF THIS. IMMA GO DRIVE IT!

The only thing I resent about my f80 M3 is that it can't make blueberry pancakes. Maybe in the next software upgrade. Aside from that I think I made a pretty good purchase.

I've had my M4 for 16 months now and I am very pleased with it. It is a much better overall car than my E92 M3 was. It is both a better daily driver and a better track car. The only drawback is that I find that the the S55 has less soul than the S65 had. The S55 is a much more potent power plant, but some "edge" has been lost. With a few light mods paired with some coding, my M4 suits my desires just fine .

Went from 2009 E90 xDrive Dinan 3 (well, not exactly "went, I kept it) to a 2015 F83.

The M is amazing. As others have written the sound is "ok", it doesn't have quite the roar you would like when stock. However this is easily fixed with a valve mode, or an exhaust change or both.

Everything about the car is just amazing. Performance is astounding but the fit and finish inside is also very nice.

Ahh, enough talk, just get it already.

I sold my C-7 for the M. No regrets whatsoever. Had it seven months now and 7000 miles. I find nothing wrong with the exhaust note, other than the 30 seconds or so of cold start up, but that is gone by the time I back out of the driveway. The C-7 has nothing on the M4....especially entry and exit. And I LOVE the YMB Dick

Haha getting a quote for my new t-shirts

Same boat as you though. Coming from an e90 m3, I have zero regrets. This car is on another level in terms of everything. Performance, looks, and even sound in my opinion. Has a unique sound to it that I absolutely love, the farting/burble noise is something I look forward to when I drive mine.

i'll start by saying that i usually get a new (different) car every year; i get bored easily. historically. this m4 is the first car that has broke me of that "addiction." in fact, i had a flat this week and was without the car for three days. the dealer gave me a brand new x5 to use until the new tyres (i went ahead and replaced all 4) arrived and were installed and also allowed me the opportunity to test out some of the other ///m autos in inventory (x5m, x6m, m6). i can honestly say, i missed the m4. even after testing out the other bmw flavours! i was so - SO - happy to be back behind the wheel when she was returned with her new shoes.

now i am A LOT older than most of you (i assume) and with that aging comes a lot of perspective and one of those views is a car is just a car is just a car at the end of the day. and that is true about this m4 as well. but as a testament to how i feel about this car and to answer the o/p's enquiry, of all the cars i've owned (some performance, some luxury, some both), THIS is the only car that keeps me coming back for more. and let's face it - we all need some sort of transportation and although it's just a car as i said above, it is the *one* to get me from a to b. i've got two mates already asking to buy it from me. and i will sell it to one of them. and when i do, i will order another one. and with that little anecdote, i think you have all the evidence you need to understand my opinion. love. it.

I completely agree with your summation on the m4 and comparison to the departed E92 m3. Could not have said it better myself. Having said this, I get bored with cars easily and this one is the first that I see me keeping for 3 years.

Yes very happy with it. I think the degree of happiness will vary by person depending on their previous car, driving needs / expectations and budget. I came from an Audi S4, I use my M4 as a DD, wanted a sports coupe (vs. cushy luxury car) and the M4 is at the top of what I'd like to spend for DD. Someone with a different perspective may feel differently so may be hard to judge based on responses. As an example, there are a couple of threads in here from a guy that didn't like his M4 and traded it in for a Panamera 4. After reading the threads, many of us believe he didn't understand what he was getting when he got the M4.

While I am certain there are some other trade-ins like that one, I also expect some of the used cars you see could be dealership employees that rotate their cars every 6-12 mos.

No blueberry pancakes, but I'm pretty sure I can smoke a brisket on the turbos.

Wait... Scratch that. A brisket needs LOW heat.

When I first got my car was a little disappointed tbh, then I took. It to the track and it came alive

I now appreciate how comfortable it is as a daily and just how hardcore it can be when the time calls

I have had my M4 for 15 months and love it. I came from an E46 M3 (not E9X) so perspective is a little difference. I loved the E46, but the M4 does everything better, with more class and precision. Great car!!!

P.S. And my M4 has zero mods, not even exhaust. I am one of those strange people that like the sound - after it gets past the startup.

I love my M3 very much. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the small, and I mean small, random little creaking and rattling it has something not found on my wife's F30. Maybe its the stiffer chassis/suspension idk, maybe I'm soiled by the quietness coming from an F10. But when the creaks and rattles get to me, I just put it in "sport" and open it up to enjoy the sounds of performance (MPE) lol.

if I had >$130k to spend on a daily, I could probably find a 911 model I'd rather daily drive, but back in $60k-$70k land I'm really happy with my M3 and still plan on it being a "keeper".

Bought my M3 euro delivery without a test drive and very glad I did

Another old dude here. Came to the M3 from a Benz C300 that was 4 months old. Liked it but didn't like the dealer experience. Have owned a couple of benzes, Porsches (newest was a 997s), and more BMWs than I can count - going back to a 2000cs, 2002tii, etc. But never an M.

Have had my M3 since January, 13k miles on it. Hit a construction barrell (it was flying and hit me, actually); repaired and repainted. Have winter wheels/tires so drive it all the time, except when snow is deep enough to plow. X5 for those days.

Best car I have ever owned. No regrets - although for passengers its peculiar noises (transmission/clutches and various metallic sounds underneath as others report) are disappointing. But it cruises well, gets decent fuel economy, and is fast when I want it to be. Great road holding. Haven't tracked it yet, may not (last car I tracked was the 997S). I expect to own it until the miles get near 70k, and if it has been reliable I will keep it longer.

I do not have the adaptive suspension, am curious about it but pretty satisfied as it sits. Apparently there is some sort of sound system in it, but I like the mechanical/exhaust sounds, even it some are engineered.

Yeah, its a keeper.
