Will the remaining M3s be returned to BMW eventually?

Just curious if with all of the new M3s sitting on lots, if the current round of rebates, etc don’t move them, will they eventually be returned to BMW since they are effectively a model year old now?

Pretty sure that any M3s on dealers lots have already been sold to the dealer by BMW NA. Are you aware of how the dealer distribution system works and the BMW NA/retail dealer relationship?

It's pretty simple. BMW GmbH (Germany) makes vehicles (all over the world). BMW NA arranges for distribution of those cars to US and Canadian dealers, who buy them and sell them to us (customers). There's more to it than just that, but that's it in a nutshell.

Ah! I see. I knew the dealer had to buy them but I thought they could return any unused inventory. Thanks!

they don't return them
the factory ie BMW always look at inventory and adjust programs accordingly
either in the form of lower MF, higher residual, or additional rebates/trunk money to dealers or all of the above
every thing will sell at the right price ..
unfortunately the more discount on new cars , it will trickle down to the used car market and push prices down
so if you switch cars around every 2-3 years , your best bet is lease
if you keep them for 10 years , grab the best discount you can get and enjoy the car, as after this period of time the difference will be minimal
