Sounds awesome and reminds me of the flat plane cranked P65 in the Z4 GT3

And that car sounds even more awesome in real life when racing on the 'Ring...

I hate the new age take on an old school dash though. I hate it. I'd never buy a Camaro or mustang because of it.

But damn! 8k + redline, flat plane and 500 hp my god.

So will the GT350 be similar weight to the Mustang GT, ~3800+?

Nice vehicle by Ford, but I think I like the C7 more.

The weight will probably be similar to the new GT, so yeah 3700 - 3800 ish depending on equipment.

The C7 is obviously quite a bit lighter and is an excellent all around package. However, one thing I'm not crazy about is that the engine is not unique; it's very similar to what they use in their trucks and some SUVs, and just an evolution of the LS3 in V-8 camaros and such. And so it sounds similar. The flat plane 8 in this new mustang won't be used in any other cars probably, and will have a different sound than pretty much any other road car. Flat plane engines are also supposed to be more responsive (rev and down rev faster) compared to a V configuration.

You raise an excellent point. I'm not sure it is financially feasible for these types of special cars on a per vehicle basis. When you think about it, Ford and GM are in a brand rebuilding phase……i.e. they need to invest in the brands and one of the best ways to do it is through halo cars or halo-type loss leaders that have a much greater impact than the individual cars sold. The brand perception will carry on far beyond those vehicles to the millions of other vehicles sold, that are suffering from perception/reputation issues. From a business perspective, this is almost a necessity and what better way to do it than to lose some money on a few special cars that help revitalize the brand.

BMW, Merc, Porsche, Ferrari, et al are far beyond this brand building phase and are in either brand maintenance or brand harvesting. I don't think BMW historically made very much money per vehicle its M vehicles, especially the S85 and S65 M5 and M3, as those were really to promote the defunct Saber F1 racing and capitalize on skirting homologation rules to compete with Porsche in DTM. It was a special time for consumers to ride the product cycle for goals that weren't related to profit per vehicle. I think the same is occurring with Ford and GM to a certain degree.

Also, interior quality wise there will likely be compromises and likely cheaper materials used. But if you've ever watched that BMW documentary on CNBC, it's crazy how many people they employ in house…remember the guy whose only focus was on the bell sounds of the cars and he was a highly paid sound engineer (who probably is one of the best guys out there)! One of the key takeaways of the documentary was that a major complaint of BMW is that they over-engineer everything to a point that the cars have lost character or have become too genericized. Taken further, if you employ all these fantastic engineering people/technologies, you've got a lot of mouths to feed, and you charge a premium for premium product, which has been the right call for a company that has already built the brand and is in maintenance or harvesting mode.

This is why I think Toyota will come out with the Supra, as they are suffering brand issues associated with lack of excitement/genericism. They tried to do this with the LFA but that was so unreachable that it got very little public attention and still I don't think will be corrected with the RCF. This Ford Mustang GT350 is going to get a lot of attention and we may have a perfect opportunity to get extraordinary value by riding Ford's product and branding needs at this juncture and benefit from it as consumers.

Props to Ford and Chevy. These guys are brining it. Even their design is starting to look more compelling.

Seriously!!! Sounds something like the M division would have developed had they not had the emissions and cost savings goals handed down by corporate and to be fair, BMW is probably closer to regulatory limitations vs Ford on an overall fleet/market exposure basis.

"it was decided a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine would best suit a track-focused Mustang"

"a flat-plane crankshaft, an architecture typically found only in racing applications or exotic European sports cars"

"The track capability is enhanced by the output characteristics of the engine – the 5.2-liter V8 features an exceptionally broad torque curve. Combined with its high-revving ability, the flat-plane 5.2-liter V8 gives drivers an enormous amount of performance and flexibility within each gear of the lightweight six-speed manual transmission"

Any bets that the power curve looks like the S85/65?

Looks great! Probably won't be 50k. more likely 65k+
considering the GT runs 42k+ with options. Motortrend's comparo test version was 46k.

2013 gt500 0-60 3.5 and 11.8 1/4 mile with 662 hp/ 631 torque - probably same numbers or similar?

Wow. I would give up a little interior quality for this thing. So far, it sounds unreal. Seriously considering this over an M2. Wonder when the press get to fling it around?

Sounds like it will have more torque down low than they do. Sounds awesome!

Shelby certainly doesn't mind making loud exhausts. Poor guy this past weekend went home early after not passing sound check at AMP with his completely stock GT500. Not the most recent model, the one before.

When you hear the car winding down on the ring it sounds very free revving and playful. I agree i would think the dyno will look similar to the S65/S85 but with more oomph.
