TDC is a 2-step procedure. The lock pin is simply to locate TDC, while locking tool will keep the flywheel in place.
Thanks I understand now.

So thinking about the whole process in my head, at the point the hub is slid out from the crank seal, the oil sprocket will fall off into the sump.

How can I prevent this from happening?

It's possible, simply use care when removing so this doesn't happen.

There has been 1 reported failure of the old V1, which hasn't been sold for about a year, when used correctly.

There are ZERO reported failures of V2, with hundreds out in the field. It's a very aggressive solution.

I purchased the complete kit so spline-lock and CBC but am hesitant to go ahead with install as many people have ruined their engines from improper install. If you say the splines dig deeper into the Hub when it encounters a situation where the hub would spin, wouldn't that ruin the hub itself and make it weaker as you are driving the splinedhub further into its place?

Also how would we know if something was to go wrong that it was the part and not the installer... Being here in NZ there is already a disadvantage of not having many tech savvy workshops and I've only found 1 willing to take on the job...

I can understand the version of the Keyed/pinned hubs failing as when you drill into the hub your making it weaker.

Sounds good!
Has there been people damaging their crank/engine due to installation faults like the guy over here says? What can be done wrong, lol.. It's only one way to install it😁

I saw on your site you were sold out atm? When will it be available again?

Jeez. Sorry to hear man. I'd post in the sticky thread for spin crank hubs as well. What year and transmission is your car?

Oil pump gear has no effect on timing. Not an issue.

We have them in stock if in a hurry. Any qualified shop can install the SplineLock for you.

I can understand the version of the Keyed/pinned hubs failing as when you drill into the hub your making it weaker.

You're mixing up some of the V1 methodology here (tighten as slip occurs), that was the V1 with angled splines. V2 is a straight spline that is very aggressive.

Any competent shop should be able to install. I'm not sure how to answer your hypothetical question about if something went wrong is it part vs. installation -that's pretty wide open and in this hypothetical situation would depend on the circumstances. There have been zero issues with the V2, a couple shops that weren't familiar with them had to frinkle around a bit before they figured it out, but in the end to the best of my knowledge they all landed with proper installation.

Chris
BMW are going to warranty it and the shop is willing to slip in a upgraded hub instead of a oem hub if i deliver the car with it😁👌

I'm going to need one shipped out to 67010, Sweden.
If tom @ eas offers one shipped at the same price as direct from VTT site (-10%) i'll throw in an order right now.
Eas website wouldnt give a shipping estimate.

Not in a hurry, the shop don't have time first weeks anyway.

This has likely been covered in a separate thread, however after searching I couldn't find the info I was looking for.

For the installation of the spline hub, is there a running list of required parts that you'll need to replace (i.e. valve cover or other gasket, seals, misc one-time-use items)?

Trying to get everything together for my mechanic to avoid any complications.

Thanks!

It depends on mileage/condition what items need to be replaced or not.

For example, there are some dust covers that are replaced during service. Any experienced shop should have immediate/easy access to these items.
