CAR INFO
2016 M3 18,xxx miles Tuned running E85 FBO After having my car tuned for a good year, I finally spun my hub. Happen 5/17 while I was driving on the freeway. Not going to lie, I was driving about 140+ and I downshifted while exiting(from 7th to 6th at maybe 90-100mph) that's when I came to a stop at the light and I got the drivetrain malfunction. Car didn't seem to have any boost, but it ran so I drove it home and parked in the garage. Checked the codes and I was throwing 130E20, 130F20, and 120408. So I began searching the forums and low and behold same codes other people with spun hub were getting. My first thought was damn maybe I should return it back to stock and take it into BMW to see if they'll cover it under warranty. So I switched my downpipes back to stock and schedule an appointment at BMW. I starting researching through the forums to see if people had luck getting it done through warranty and I couldn't really get a clear answer. I'm aware BMW NA would get involved and eventually download all the data from the DME. I was debating if it's worth the trouble, but I was having second thoughts. Why get it replaced back to stock? Why not just upgrade. That's when I contacted SSR. They were prompt to get back to me and I had my car towed there that night to be checked out the next morning to see exactly what's wrong with my car. Next morning 5/18, I get a text message confirming it's my CH. Yup I pretty much knew it. They let me know it doesn't look like any internal engine damage occurred, but they will have to confirm after they retime it and check if leak down is good to be 100% certain. So I go ahead and authorize the work, since SSR is a very reliable and known company, let alone the good communication I was getting in regards to the updates on my car. They let me know there's several cars ahead of me getting the crank hub fix too, so they won't be able to get to it until later on during the week, which doesn't bother me knowing SSR will get it done in no time and have it running 100% again. 5/21 Repairs begin will keep you guys updated on the progress or updates |

@SSR Performance
With these spun crank hubs what are you seeing... i know you will say both but is it more so the whole hub spinning or is the timing sprocket torque shock and friction plate breaking? If whole hub is spinning is it the bolt loosening and not pressing in enough therefore hub spins? |
