Albert Biermann M division engineering boss - 2016 M3 GT, M7, xDrive M5/M6?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Quote:

A BMW M7 should be created from the 7-series saloon, says M division engineering boss Albert Biermann.

Although Biermann says he wants to create the model, an M7 has never been officially made by the M division. The model would top the firm’s line-up as a flagship performance saloon.

Such a model exists of sorts, with BMW specialist Alpina making the B7, complete with a 533bhp twin-turbo V8 engine. However, Biermann said an M7 would be quite different.

“I would love to compete in this area of the market,” he said. “The money is just there to pick up. An M7 would be a much different proposition to the B7.”

But Biermann said an M7 was not in the product plan at present as M division concentrates on other projects. “There’s so many nice things you could do with unlimited money,” he said.

Such projects include the investigation of four-wheel drive for the next-generation M5 and M6 models, and a possible M3 version of the 3-series GT in 2016.

BMW M is not planning to extend its suite of SUVs with M versions of the X3 and upcoming X4 to join its X5 M and X6 M models. Instead, it will develop M Performance versions, similar to how Audi differentiates S and RS models.

Last sunday evening I encountered a camouflaged BMW on the German Autobahn that looked a lot like a 3GT but with more rectangular exhausts left and right, like those on a M550d or the new X5 M50d.
Guess this might be a diesel M-performance 3GT prototype.
Was too dark and went too fast to take a picture with my phone.

And let me guess, the M3/4 GT will have a tuned V8 for $20,000 more than current M3/4

Global sales of the 3er GT has exceed initial projection for 2013. Once we have two years of sales to look at whether it has been successful or otherwise then we can go ahead or not go ahead with the concept.

The 3er GT is sold in all global markets and this is where its success is coming from. Perhaps you would like to visit the F34 thread where we already have a core forum who have purchased that car.

The car has been presented to the BMW board this past week.
If you like the 3er GT M-Sport then you will like the M3 GT it has been M orientated with broader wheel arches and a similar aero packet albeit slightly amended because of the 3er GT's height. The 3er GT's facia stays the same.

You do realize the GT they are taking about here is that not-so-handsome weird looking hatch model they create for both 3er and 5er right? Not some extreme performance version of a M3/M4.

M3GT would be sweet considering how awesome they look in M-Sport trim with properly sized wheels. Fender flares, a drop and a 3.9 0-60 would make this thing an RS7 fighter

M7 would be awesome..

... and they should make it very awesome by tuning the V12.. it already kicks out 544hp, imagine what M could do with it!?

As for the M3GT, I could live with it I guess, I prefer the front of the 3GT to either the Saloon/Tourer, or the 4 series... but I can already imagine the epic tide of complaining that would wash over the forum.

Give me an M6GC with x-drive all day long! I need a year-round sports saloon from BMW and the non-M cars are too boring in summer but great in winter. I could use more summer fun with a capable winter car.

3 GT in M-sport packet is not that bad but it's a shame that BMW looks at this car as a potential M instead of a M5/M3 touring.

I was shocked that 2 of my friends sold their cars and bought the 5 GT. I think these cars are more popular than we here (enthusiasts) are willing to admit or give BMW credit for.

Or maybe I need different friends?

I would LOVE an xDrive ///M car. Of any sort. Offer it in both trims (RWD and xDrive). Damn serious about that. And honestly that is where I see them making a ton of money too. Audi leads the way, AMG followed and BMW insists on sticking it's head in the sand (claiming purist M cars can only be RWD - right X5M?). Meanwhile they continue to whore out the brand and dilute the entire ///M legacy with all kinds of other fender badges, SUV's, diesel cars and other useless stupid shit! Make an xDrive ///M car goddamnit! Uuuuuugh ...

Wait, was that a rant?

The world does not need an M3 GT. M2 and M4 Gran Coupe are mandatory instead.

BMW starts making no sense lately. Naming the 1 GT a 2-Series, no news on M2 or M4 Gran Coupe and now an M3 GT rumour. It is getting hilarious.

Agree about the M7 though. Been long overdue already. V12, 600+hp.

Sounds to me like someone is trying to sabotage the M division from the inside. What's next, an all wheel drive M3?
